Really?  How many snaps did Zimmer see at 1TDT last season?

I don't know.

But I do know that Oliver and Butler had plenty of snaps there.

Now they move to the other DT spot and Zimmer is no longer needed.

McD seems to like what he contributes on ST so far. Not sure he’s really solidified himself as a core player that they are dead set on keeping though. I’ve never noticed him make a play there but I’m also not a ST coach and have no idea what it means for them to do their job well if they aren’t returning kicks or making plays in coverage.

You would think that Rousseau OR Basham, talented as they are, would be able to take over Daryl Johnson's role on ST.

But, how can we have a Wildgoose chase if he’s on the practice squad?

True, would’ve rather seen additional players drafted for a position in need, like CB or TE.

you also have to consider future needs. Once Josh signs a big contract younger players and rookies will need to take up more of the roster.

I see your logic now.

I was thinking of it as Zimmer is not competing with Star directly, so not clear why Star's return impacts him.

I thought about bumping the "Way Too Early" projection thread but it's almost 2 months old at this point.

I thought  @Matt Parrino did a reasonable job, though there is plenty of room to debate.

I'm going to condense his predictions in one place, then loop back to discuss

QB:QUARTERBACK (2): Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky

RUNNING BACK (4): Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, Matt Breida, Taiwan Jones

WIDE RECEIVER (6): Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis, Isaiah McKenzie, Isaiah Hodgins

TIGHT END (3): Dawson Knox, Jacob Hollister, Tommy Sweeney

OFFENSIVE LINE (9): Dion Dawkins, Daryl Williams, Jon Feliciano, Mitch Morse, Cody Ford, Ike Boettger, Spencer Brown, Tommy Doyle, Ryan Bates

DEFENSIVE LINE (10): Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, A.J. Epenesa, Boogie Basham, Greg Rousseau, Star Lotulelei, Ed Oliver, Vernon Butler, Efe Obada, Harrison Phillips
LINEBACKER (6): Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano, A.J. Klein, Tyrell Adams, Tyler Matakevich, Tyrel Dodson

DEFENSIVE BACKS (10): Tre’Davious White, Levi Wallace, Dane Jackson, Taron Johnson, Rachad Wildgoose, Siran Neal, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Jaquan Johnson, Damar Hamlin
SPECIALISTS (3): Tyler Bass, Matt Haack, Reid Ferguson

Discuss!

Agree with most- Taiwan does nothing for me. I know, I know he is a teamer- not a great one and we could upgrade there.

With the added game and possibility of a larger roster, having a 3rd QB may be a wise choice.

Taiwan Jones was one of the first players special coordinator wanted after Tyler Matakevich.

Isn't weird to have 3 LBs named Tyler on roster?

@Hapless Bills Fan Zimmer had 275 defensive snaps or 25.68% of all defensive snaps last year. I don't have the breakdown of 1T or 3T, At 6'3" and 292 or so is kind of small for 1T DT though.

Zimmer had a solid snap count in week 1, but was not active weeks 2,3,4,5. From week 6 on he saw 20-45% of defensive snaps, and continued as a rotational piece in the playoffs (29, 37, 20%)

He also had light work on ST

Edit: saw the follow up conversations about 3T guys covering for 1T and now they roll back to 3T.

Still think Butler is best served at 1T.

You mean two Tyrel(l)'s and a Tyler? 😄 Or am I forgetting some people?

OK - who are the players you see as upgrades, and why do you see them as such?

As for the "possibility of a larger roster", where is this possibility spoken of by the teams or the NFL or someone with inside info of the NFL, that it looks like it might be a real possibility instead of just something fans look at as reasonable?

Great Question: Barkley as a 3. Knows the system, wont break the bank. As for RB- Duke Johnson and give McKenzie more ST’s play.

There is no magic answer but hey, it is the off-season 😊.

I think the theory is 1st and 2nd round players are protected more and the organization is less likely to risk injury on ST.  Besides I don't think it will take very long for Groot and Boogie to establish their roles.
