53 Man Roster: Projection After OTA/Minicamp

Recommended Posts

I thought about bumping the "Way Too Early" projection thread but it's almost 2 months old at this point.

I thought  @Matt Parrino did a reasonable job, though there is plenty of room to debate.

I'm going to condense his predictions in one place, then loop back to discuss

QB:QUARTERBACK (2): Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky

RUNNING BACK (4): Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, Matt Breida, Taiwan Jones

WIDE RECEIVER (6): Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis, Isaiah McKenzie, Isaiah Hodgins

TIGHT END (3): Dawson Knox, Jacob Hollister, Tommy Sweeney

OFFENSIVE LINE (9): Dion Dawkins, Daryl Williams, Jon Feliciano, Mitch Morse, Cody Ford, Ike Boettger, Spencer Brown, Tommy Doyle, Ryan Bates

DEFENSIVE LINE (10): Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, A.J. Epenesa, Boogie Basham, Greg Rousseau, Star Lotulelei, Ed Oliver, Vernon Butler, Efe Obada, Harrison Phillips
LINEBACKER (6): Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano, A.J. Klein, Tyrell Adams, Tyler Matakevich, Tyrel Dodson

DEFENSIVE BACKS (10): Tre’Davious White, Levi Wallace, Dane Jackson, Taron Johnson, Rachad Wildgoose, Siran Neal, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Jaquan Johnson, Damar Hamlin

Roster size should be bigger this year with the extra game.

If it does end up bigger I would add Ryan Bates and Darryl Johnson, both young and not much $.   Morse as our primary Center concerns me with his age/injury history and concussions, one thing Bates has O Line versatility.  I always liked the upside to Daryl Johnson, was very "raw" coming it of North Carolina A&T  but has great length.

We are going to loose a good or potentially good D Lineman this year.

WR is tough to pick. Your assumes Marquez Stevenson, Duke Williams, Kumerow lose out to Hodgins, McK.

OL - Douglas, Lamp, Hart all cut. Another battle here and possible trade of one of them or someone on your list.

DL - Zimmer cut and Johnson cut. Will be interesting.

DB - Still think they bring in another CB and then someone on that list has to go.

I think Anderson/Lamp makes it over Bates/Boettger. I think they keep Zimmer over Obada. Or, don't be surprised if Addison ends up being cut if some of the younger guys show themselves to be more than capable throughout TC and Preseason. I also won't be surprised if they choose to stash Wildgoose on the PS.

Edit: And I believe Stevenson makes it over Hodgins if only for ST ability alone. Hodgins will be stashed on the PS.

Duke didn't do much last year and we've added guys who fill a role he doesn't (see play STs and WR) so think he could as gone. I agree with the O-line that Hart and Lamp are tough cuts. Zimmer was our 2nd best DT last year I think he a really tough cut. A veteran CB be nice to add to the mix not named Richard Sherman.

Drafting Doyle on top of Spencer Brown was just stupid.  He isn't making the final roster.  I hope we can find room for Stevenson and Zimmer.  Tyrell A may push Tryel D off the roster as well.

We are overcrowded at the Dline position and I predict the following happens:

1) Either Addison or Hughes will be released or traded before the start of the regular season

2) Harrison Phillips will also not be on the final roster and I could see this team making a veteran addition at DT in the coming months.

But, how can we have a Wildgoose chase if he’s on the practice squad?

True, would’ve rather seen additional players drafted for a position in need, like CB or TE.

I think it's interesting to compare the takes because it helps highlight the areas where there seems to be the most uncertainty about what the Bills will do:

DE

DT

LB

However, I don't think the moves at WR, TE, and DB are as "locked in" as this "lock step" agreement in the media would have us think.

-I'm not so sure Sweeney is a "shoo-in" for the roster or that they're ready to move on from Gilliam

-I think we're going to see at least one, maybe two, surprises at WR

-I'm not sure Cam Lewis meets the Turk

Training camp can't get here soon enough for me!

I'm beginning to wonder if one or both of Ike and Ford are locks.

We did trade Teller one year after drafting him.
