STOP THE STEAL

Buffalo may eliminate the mayor’s office to prevent socialist India Walton from taking office in November

That's shady even if she is a socialist.  I prefer to let the people decide.

Mayor Byron Brown has some sort of sign-in sheet going around to get on the ballot without being a write-in.

"The Buffalo Party where anyone who is registered in the city of Buffalo can sign"

He is running as a sign in regardless, but this would be easier.

Anyhoooo this WIVB poll has him ahead by 10 points. I cannot believe it is that close.

We thinking there’ll be some riots if Byron pulls off the victory?

i live in the city and see alot of signs for byron in front of houses so i dont think so. he got lazy and nobody even knew she was running let alone win. thats on him but they know now.

pretty odd that i havent heard anyone else throwing thier hat in the ring. i mean its not looking to bad for larry elders in a deep blue state. guess the city is so garbage power isnt even attractive.

its 2021 so a mostly peaceful fire may engulf the city in the end but no real signs of that type of tension from what i see.

Why would there be riots if a Dem beats out a Marxist?

Lol.... not radical enough, so a riot is required course of action.  As for Walton, if she’s so sure that her “grass roots” campaign / ideas are the will of the people, why is she concerned about anyone else being on the ballot ?

They don't want to play spoiler.  If a large number of Republicans, moderate Democrats, and Independents show up Brown should win as the local media will hype this race.  California is different has the odd recall thing where Elder could theoretically win with about 25% of the votes.

That would be something: Dem on Dem violence.  As for the ballot, can't people write Brown in anyway?

True lol ,but I don’t think they’d be violent against each other, they’d just riot and damage businesses , government buildings, etc.  Sure people can and will write in Brown, but she’s banking on the low info voter just checking a box next to a name. Much easier

That would be...something.  "The Democrat who got elected wasn't enough of a Marxist so we're going to destroy *****!"

And if that's what she thinks, it's not just her voters who are low information...

i understand what your saying tactically.

i just think its odd that there are clear signals that people want a difference. alot of them will take anything at this point. maybe im way off but biden plummeting in polls means its not biased anger. it means dems are going independent. they wanted normalcy and solutions and the people and parties cemented are not offering much but the same. still there is no desire for alternate parties to test the water at all? libertarians should be making huge gains at this point in history as minorities clearly want choice with the vaccine, should get good support there. EVERYONE is growing tired of what seems like arbitrary authoritarian overreach at this point. exhausted from the damn culture war embedded in every facet of life.

if im a working parent im picking the candidate regardless of party that will open schools so i can make a living to survive. if im a law abiding citizen i dont want to hear another word about bail reform or "healing" the problem of crime. its skyrocketing and i want my kids safe when they are outside my house ect ect ect. i think most people dont follow politics closely and a decent number of votes are this persons name is different then the one that is causing this CHECK.

if this situation doesnt motivate alternative parties then nothing will. this is the best shot they have.

born and bred, most my family as well.

may not for much longer. NY state is crushing the company i work for. the attendance issues with fmla, pla alone has shut depts down before covid and it obv worse now. the fix as usual is to punish the workers that are showing up by forcing mandatory overtime which is burning people out and having them figure out how they too have a problems that qualify for state approved time off work.

i get up to go to work everyday to see lines of cars that dont move from there spot all week. get to work and have to cover call offs. look at my check where they take close to half to pay for it all and only signs that its going to get worse. its unsustainable. can't say im following walton closely but im betting shes all for the continuation or exacerbation of policies that are ripe for abuse at the expense of the working class.

Looking for the following from the PPP community:

1. The specific model of socialism that you think best characterizes India Walton’s political philosophy (a technical label or a matching country/time period is fine).

2. Public policies pulled from Ms. Walton’s campaign website that you think qualify her as a socialist.

3. A candid appraisal of the fairness of Judge John Sinatra’s ruling, with reference to his brother’s political ties.

4. A simple “yes” or “no” answer here will suffice: Do you think Byron Brown winning in November will hurt the far-left movement, from a national perspective and not a local one?

5. Any personal opinions on the efficacy of worker cooperative implementations.

Hi, Kay.
1. Castro circa 1950.

2. She doesn’t self-describe in the “Who is India Walton” section of her website.  However, her endorsements label her as a socialist.  Also her site contains this interview of Walton from Jacobin Magazine (there’s a loaded title!) discussing her endorsement by the Democratic Socialists of America. They discussed Socialism and her vision quite a bit.  Not only that, but any media outlet that announced her primary win distinctly labeled her as a straight-up Socialist, and I never saw her push back on that. https://www.jacobinmag.com/2021/05/india-walton-interview-buffalo-mayor-race-democratic-primary?fbclid=IwAR2GeLuz8_ra-dCgQ60umzdCm27DDHT7w6LTnaEsEWQFion8kcc2x-4IM1M

3. I haven’t read Sinatra’s decision and I don’t know who his brother is.  I will say that the decision, coupled with the past recent news that the City Council is thinking of banishing the office of Mayor led me to my answer #1. With your question #3 are you insinuating that you see a political party setting up the apparatus to defeat a political outsider whom they see as an extremist? Hmmm, have we seen this before?

4. Time will tell. Can’t answer that yet.

5. Depends on a lot of things, but I’d say, like everything Socialist and further left: good in theory, bad in practice. Time and basic human nature erodes the good idea and eventually the only way to sustain the idea is through heavy-handed regulation, to say the least. See my answer #1.

Is 3. even material?  Why shouldn't Brown have his name on the ballot?

The judge said if someone writes in Brown now, the write in vote won't count. With the signs I saw for Brown in SOUTH BUFFALO (basically every lawn)  he will win. People don't want a communist light (socialist) as mayor.
