it is amazing to think we had one of the all-time greats who started out rather rough .. but as the article states “In the 13 seasons from 1986 to 1998, Smith hit the double-digit sack mark a total of 12 times and the only reason he didn't make it a perfect 13 is because he missed 11 games in 1991 due to a knee injury. ” the season he was suspended he got 12 sacks in 12 games. Favorite Bruce story not mentioned in the article was a comment from an opposing quarterback who was lamenting how he hated playing Bruce as Bruce would eat raw  Garlic before the game and if he sacked the qb he would lay on him and breath into the quarterbacks face mask .. that will make someone nervous :)

I have no idea how good Chuck Bednarik was so I have no opinion on ranking him there.  But Bradshaw ahead of Simpson?  NO WAY.  As the article mentions, it was the tremendous Steelers defense that won all those championships.  Bradshaw (the original TB12) was a good QB, but there is NO WAY he surpassed what Simpson did.  There's far too much emphasis on winning championships in ranking individual players.

OJ deserves to be on that list.  Prime example of being the victim of the increasing cancel culture in today's society.

You can make the case that OJ was the first victim of cancel culture.  His football achievements were conspicuously ignored due to the fact that he was a vicious, brutal knife murderer.  There is even talk that his name should come off the Bills' ring of honor.  Not recognizing his achievements -- the only RB to get 2000 yards in a 14 game season, dominating the league for three or four years as the obvious MVP -- can only be due to people not wanting to honor a killer that way.  But that's not what this list was about.

He was considered in the honorable mention category.

Any list that does not have OJ as one of the top 10 best first overall draft picks is just wrong. He is still in the argument for top 5 RB of all time.

The list is only the Top 5.  Did you read it?

I saw that.  Always safe to include him.  I'm surprised Ed "too tall" Jones and Ron Yary weren't mentioned.  Meanwhile Eli Manning was.

Would he show up for camp?

Nope and the board would melt down saying he isn't a team player and should be traded. Edge guys aren't needed when the qb gets rid of the ball in under 2 seconds etc...

and yet he never lead the NFL in sacks in a single season.

In his best season (1996), he not only led the entire league in AV (Average Value; PFR's equivalent of WAR for football), he had a ridiculous 54 pressures, dwarfing every other pass rusher in the league.

This says Kevin Greene lead the NFL in sacks in 1996, https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1996/defense.htm
