Miami considering trading down from 6

It would actually be smart, IMO.

They can trade down pick up another 1st next year and If Tua isn't that guy but that still go .500 or so they have the ability to package some picks to move up and get a QB next season if they think one is there.... or trade for Deshaun assuming his legal issues are behind him by then.

If they were to do this for the reason(s) you're saying, they should be fired. If they're hedging on Tua now, they should have stayed at #3 and picked a QB.

They'd look clueless in my eyes making another move.

Honestly I’d trade out as well and collect a 1st for next year. This years draft class is kinda iffy to me. As far as Tua is concerned gotta give him some time and give the guy a fair chance. It’s not like Josh looked amazing his first year (yes I know he had garbage around him) and Peyton threw 28 picks his rookie year.

They're capitalizing on other QB needy teams.

They're getting a ton of future draft picks in exchange for simply waiting one year to see if Tua is good.

If Tua stinks, they will not only have a top pick next year, they will have several others to surround the new QB with more talent.

It's a smart strategy. It's the opposite of "clueless."

Obviously it depends on what’s being offered. They can’t go back too far and still be able to give Tua reliable weapons to be successful this year. They will probably be the most intriguing team to watch on that first night of the draft

Didn’t they already do this?

They got two 1st rounders from San Fran by trading back to 12...then they gave one back to Philly by trading up to 6...now they want to trade back again?

They are either severely overthinking things or they are geniuses...Lol

I cannot wait for the headline "Miami is looking for a new HC" once Tua fails

He may survive a failure by Tua as there was some risk with taking him and think it was known.  What I think will be Miami's downfall will be their coach is pretty good and the team is pretty solid, minus the QB.

So for the next few years, they likely will be good enough to win 8 to 9 games every season, thus never bad enough to get the franchise QB.  Next year in 2022 even with the extra picks, are there any can't miss college QB's out there?  This year, other than Lawrence, the others all carry some risk.  Take a guy like Darnold, he was more considered "can't miss" than the remaining players this year.

They dont relies they are one of those teams.  Next years class is not nearly as talented as this class.  Eventually, they need differance makers on the football field.  Stock pile all the picks they want if they cant turn them into great players it is a useless exercise.

This what the picks would be for if that were the case...Miami has the ability to keep trading for picks because as you said, their team should be solid.

Mahomes wasn't a "cant miss college QB". Wilson, Rodgers, and Lamar weren't either. Josh Allen had tools but no one was betting on him to be as good as he is now. You don't need a top 5 pick to get a good QB.

Nobody believes this.  They already gave up a 1st trading back up.  This rumor is almost as stupid as last year when Dolphins were trying to convince people they were going Offensive Tackle instead of QB at pick 5.

It isn't too far-fetched. Denver would be a prime trade-down partner which would allow Miami to still get Jaylen Waddle for example.

I'd take these reports with a grain of salt though. Miami is one of the most secretive teams in the league. Reports are only coming out now since everyone believes Atlanta is taking Pitts instead of a QB.

Agree, they could get lucky and get the next Mahomes, but the odds are much more in their favor of getting the next Josh Rosen instead as for every Mahomes out there, there's a half dozen or so Rosen's.  And you can only pick one at a time, drafting one every year, you'll never have time to find out if he'll work out or not.

Makes total sense to me.

They traded up to #6 targeting Pitts and Chase. They'll likely get one of them, but it's not 100% sure. So if both are gone - again, unlikely - why not give strong consideration to picking up some extra picks if they get a good offer?

It is though.  You don’t trade back up to 6 without knowing there’s gonna be somebody you want there.  Other teams know this and now that it looks like Pitts and Chase are going 4 and 5, Miami wants somebody to trade up to 4 or 5 for a QB so either Pitts or Chase fall to them.
