whorlnut
Good for Alex. He was able to come back and go out on his own terms. It’s probably best before he has any other issues with the leg...
Punching Bag
Better to wait for a QB to go down in playoffs and sign up as backup to add year to retirement fund and not go thru training camp, preseason, etc.
BuffaloBills1998
That’s too bad I think he had 1-2 good years left in him. He was just on a really bad Washington team in a horrible/weak NFC. I thought for sure he would’ve ended up in Miami, backing up Tua. He would’ve made more sense than Jacoby

I cringed every time I saw him get hit last season. Edited April 19, 2021 by BarleyNY 2

Maynard
I was surprised he ever came back. That took some serious guts!! Good on him, go live your life healthy!
H2o
Good for him. He has nothing left to prove to himself or anyone else. Hopefully he can now walk away with that peace of knowing it is the right decision and enjoy the rest of his life.

MJS
Underrated QB. He had some really good years in KC and San Fran. I think people just got so used to calling him average or below average that they didn't realize that se of his seasons he was easily a top 10 QB when you look at the stats. And he was a 3 time pro bowler. I also think it was super lame that he got the boot after taking the 49ers to the Superbowl. San Fran should have stuck with him. 1
TheFunPolice
After watching that special on his injury and recovery, it's amazing that he was able to come back and play in NFL games. Nothing left to prove, and not worth the risk of further injury to that leg. He's got a boatload of money, a great family, and proved that he overcame that horrific injury.

dollars 2 donuts
He came back after two years from almost losing his leg and helped lead a bad team to the playoffs. Jeepers, that stuff just writes itself like a fairy tale. Congrats and enjoy, Alex. One of your contemporaries from '05 will take it over for a little while.
Captain Hindsight
Was hoping he would get another opportunity. One of the most inspiring comeback stories I've ever seen. What a great career

BornAgainBillsFan
A true miracle of modern medicine! He and Bridgewater are proof that career-ending injuries are happening less and less often. But it takes a guy with tremendous fortitude to come back from what he faced. Enjoy life, Mr. Smith! And go easy on that leg.
