The Autumn Wind is a Raider

If this voice doesn’t tingle your spine, you’re a sniveling, snot-nosed punk.

Nah, jk. ‘The Voice’ is John Facenda who narrated all NFL Films as the sport grew from 2nd Class to the top of the sports heap!

Weekly highlight shows were absolute Must See TV.

[Edit: additional Facenda documentary below]

That was AWESOME!!  Brought me back to my childhood in the 1970's watching the NFL and This week in Pro Football w Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier.  John Facenda did a lot of the narrating of the hilites.  Him and Harry Kalas were tremendous.  And the music is so classic.  Football was almost mythical back then with the evil empire of the Raiders.  The 70's was just raw brutality on the gridiron.  The game is much different in the modern era.  But for brutality violence and toughness that era can not be beat.  (That music makes me think of all those big Raider victories with the Snake at QB.  The Holy Roller, Ghost to the post, Sea of hands to name a few)

Thanks for sharing that Chandler.

I absolutely love those NFL films. Laceneda's narration fostered a sense of the Roman Coliseum! The immortals!

John Facenda should be in the HOF based on contributions to the game.

NFL Films shaped my life, and I'm only 43.

The Sabols should have statues outside of Canton.

Dan Patrick is very vocal about getting John Facenda into the HOF. Says he’s written the HOF promoting him. I agree. He is THE voice you think of when it comes to the NFL. Classic stuff!

I hear there are outtakes of him cussing up a blue streak when he messed up a line. That would be entertaining!

Sniveling, snot nosed punk.  I resemble those remarks.  Just kidding Chandman.

When getting excited for big games, it sounds silly, but I used to play this song.  I’m a little envious the Raidas have the coolest football song ever.

That man had the best voice ever fir NFL Films presents.  Agreed the Sabolls and him should be together busts for the HOF.   They helped make the sport.

Chand, thanks for the memory.

Lacenda was the "voice" of football when I was growing up! Football still had a mystery about it and we all had for analysis was a good Sunday sports page!

I’m still not sure why you need that scarf and hat living in Florida, but my parents were always feeling cold too. I guess you are not alone.  :)

No doubt about Facenda being the "voice" of NFL. The other great one that we got to hear live once a week was Cosell. I didn't love him in game, but his Monday Night Football intros set to the MNF theme song and highlights were epic. I can still remember getting pumped listening to him hype "The Juice" before a Bills Monday nighter.

Cosell was a guy that people loved to hate...yet he was an icon in his time.  The kind of personality that we will never see again. Like Facenda, Cosell was able to create a mystique and a sense of possibilty!

I admit, it’s much better than the 1970’s porn ‘stache. Big improvement! Scholarly, in fact, in a Bah, Humbug sort of way!

NFL Films and John Facenda are 100% why I am such a big fan of football.

As a kid, stumbling upon those NFL Films’ team yearbook programs on ESPN...

The slow motion, the music, the poetic narration, the voice. They made these guys seem like modern day gladiators. They made it seem like football was the most important, exciting, dramatic thing in the world.

Nothing ever did more to allow football to overtake baseball as America’s pastime, in my opinion, than NFL Films.

Same.  My Grandfather had all the VHS tapes.  I watched them every time I was at his house.   Big part of my childhood.

Great stuff.  Facenda helped create the image of the NFL back then.  Looking today at all the NFL coverage on TV, Internet, social media.  All the ex jocks and Bozo’s out there.

The saying “less is more” really rings true.
