I’m sure many of you know they bring in kickers and punters every year to create a bench if the contract doesn’t work out or if one of these guys go down so they have an option to go after him.  They are just bench candidates.

Mayeb, maybe not. They tried hard to upgrade punting last summer, and prior to his injury Palardy was very good.

Could also mean negotiations aren’t going well with Bojo.  Doubt the Bills tender him at $2m plus which means he’ll be a free agent.  In a year where the cap is down 10%, punters aren’t getting more than the vet minimum unless they’re significantly better than replacement level.

I am surprised no one said it yet...........Super Bowl ;)

Maybe Bojo is looking for a big pay hike.....after all I think he only shanked one punt last year ;)

That 19 yarder against the Cards.

They need a cheap option at this position as the Bills were near the top of the league for fewest punts.

Specifically ones who are average at this point in their careers and then overpaid by Beane and company.

I mean I don’t disagree they’ve overpaid based on their production and yes it is kind of annoying with all the former Panthers... but the supply is limited... if you want to get players at certain positions... you’re likely going to have to overpay.

We did just go to the AFCCG using that approach... obviously whatever they’re doing is working. I’m not attributing their success to former panthers at all lol...

Like most on here, I'm tired of the Bills dipping into the Panther's well...

...but Palardy was a really good punter. I wouldn't be upset if they also took a look at Kawann Short.

We don't want Beane liking someone just because he was a Panther. But we also can't hate someone just because he was a Panther.

You do know he was the #1 gross punting avg. in the league, and #5 net punting avg.  So you upgrade from #1 on a guy who had a serious injury?  I’m not trying to be snarky, but if you said they don’t want to pay Bojo, ok.  More likely they want a bench for Bojo if he gets hurt, just like last year.  An example of upgrading was drafting Bassomatic as House $ was starting to slip and not reliable over 50 yards.

Almost every team brings in kickers and punters every year so they test out bench candidates if their guy(s) get hurt.  They don’t have a lot of time to find a replacement in for example week 8 of the season, because Bojo or Bass gets hurt.  They need to have a list of guys if available they can offer a tender.  It’s done every year, and not just the Bills.  Most teams do this with specialists.  If a returner gets hurt, like Roberts, they can have McKenzie or Hyde help out in a pinch.  They can’t do that with a kicker or punter.  The only emergency for a kicker or punter which has rarely happened is the punter becomes the kicker for the remainder of a game or the opposite.

He is significantly better than replacement level, and he's still constantly improving so you are likely going to be getting him at value because as his skill continues to improve he's going to continue being more valuable after you sign him.

Punter and kicker are positions where if you have something that works, you pay a bit more so you don't need to worry about it for a decade...knock on wood, but those positions deal with far fewer injury risks, so you're more likely to have consistency and stats based on skill within random variance (bojo did get hurt in 2019 iirc, and that impacted his performance down the stretch that year...plus the crazy wind the bills played in basically every game the last half of 2019...mostly sneaking that in to say for the 100th time that that is the reason JA's deep ball accuracy was so bad in 2019).

I'm getting sick and tired of the Dolohins signing and trading for everyone lol

That guy from the Athletic had us signing this guy AND drafting one in his off season moves wish list.

He should get lots of work in Miami with 3 and out Tua at the helm ;)
