‘Did You Know’ thread about the Bills

That the Bills should have been in the first two Super Bowls?

In 1963 AFL commissioner Joe Foss sent a letter challenging the NFL to a championship game starting in 1964. Had the league started the Super Bowl that year the Bills would have played the Cleveland Browns.

Cookie Gilchrist vs Jim Brown.

In 1965 we would have played the Packers. The Bills defense of those years would have given the NFL a tough game. We may be chasing the Lou Saben trophy had Pete Rozelle not chickened out.

Did you know Joe Ferguson (me) was color blind? And because of this condition the helmet color was changed from white to red.

Writing about yourself in the third person comes off as somewhat arrogant.

Did you know Kent Hull and Will Wolford, while playing in Buffalo, developed a taste for Sabres hockey and both shared 2 season tickets in the end zone Reds at the Aud?

Lived through that.  Cookie was a better runner between the tackles, [and on bad fields - The Derrick Henry of his day] but Brown was also a deadly weapon in the passing game.  Bills probably would have been in the first Superbowl.  Saban traded Cookie to Denver, because he couldn't control Cookie, then did one of his multiple quits in anger.  Joel Collier was an all-world DC, but not a head coach.  We also stupidly let Lamonica go to Oakland and kept Kemp with eroding skills. the 1966 defense was rock solid and basically the same defense as the two AFL championship teams. Interestingly Lamonica was from Clovis California, also in the central valley of california, an hour from firebaugh, and was a big strong quarterback with great arm talent.

Yeah and the Bills got Billy "The Piano Man" Joe for Cookie

Now there's  a Bill you don't  hear much about.

Brian Pillman was both a noted pro wrestler and a Buffalo Bill, one of two former Bills who made it big in pro wrestling. The other was Monty Brown. Pillman was a preseason cut in 85 and spent some time in the CFL in Calgary where he met the great Stu Hart and made his move to wrestling.
