Crucial Offside Indy on fourth that resulted in TD before half. Was there a play called?

Recommended Posts

This is one of the few complaints I have about the Bills offense. In the situation where they are obviously trying to draw someone Offside.. they NEVER actually snap the ball. They will take the penalty or call a timeout. If you NEVER do it then teams know that so it doesn't work.

Even if you try to believe they're saving it for a special moment in a game.. it doesn't make sense that the one moment is worth more than all the times they might draw somebody Offside if the other team really believes they might snap the ball.

Every team in the league has resume pads like this for and against—oh, and we’re a soft Tampa breeze at the right moment away from being SB XXV champs!:w00t:

I agree with you. It’s not as bad as the nhl in terms of how arbitrary the winners and losers are, but there’s still a lot of “puck luck” in winning nfl games.

I don't know, but when it happened, it occurred to me that Josh is the best hard count specialist we've had since ... EJ. 🙂

You have to admit EJ was a special talent that way- Josh has a way to go to catch him there

I don't get what you are trying to say.  The "NEVER" part is really confusing because they just did it.

And if someone felt they were saving it for a special moment, then they have to think our coaches are geniuses because it worked!  Trying to get their first playoff win in 25 years is kind of the best case scenario for when to have that play work.

As an aside, Allen has become one of the better QBs at drawing offside penalties and getting yards out of those plays. Another area in which he has joined Rogers and Mahomes.

He really is very good at it.

It seems he does it once a week.

Theres an art to it, too. Timing it in such a way that you still get a free play. If you wait too long, the refs blow the play dead and you don’t get that free shot.

Aaron Rodgers is the guy I saw perfect it in the modern era, and Josh seems to be the only other guy I see doing it so well.

One if the worst Offside I've ever seen. Such a blockhead play by the Colts defender. He deserved to be benched for that.

I think it's up to Morse to snap the ball in those instances, so you have to give some credit to him too. And obviously the other guys need to be ready as well.

No, they didn't. The guy jumped Offside. The Bills did not run a play after failing to draw someone on the hard count. If you have an example of it being otherwise, just 1... let's hear it.

Earlier in the season, I thought he was one of the worst.  He was predictable with an obvious tell overacting his "For reals defenders, I'm TOTALLY snapping the ball on this hut" bit with his hands and shouting and whatnot.

I also want to praise Allen for knowing the situation.  Once he had a free play he knew there was only limited time on the clock so he quickly threw downfield and did not waste any time off the clock.  It was extremely smart not to try and hit an open man downfield or wait for someone to run a route.  There wasn't anyone open downfield so he just chucked it down there

What you are describing is actually snapping the ball and going for it on 4th down.  They did do that plenty, so I am not sure what you are saying.

Have seen this more and more with other teams as well, however. Didn't the Colts try the same schtick without success IIRC? But we also go for it on 4th down more than I've ever seen previous regimes do so, FWIW.

I also find it weird how he is criticized for "INTs that luckily were called back" on FREE PLAYS (is PFF still doing that) while Rodgers is hailed for taking the opportunity at a big play or pass interference.

Some don't understand the INT never actually existed in the first place as it's a dead play if the penalty isn't declined.

Unless they're talking about the almost INT that the DB had no chance of hauling in.

There was a throw to Brown that was intercepted.

You already have the 5 yards, so just have 'em run 9-9-9 down the field and throw it up and hope for a ****in pass interference, as Marv Levy used to say.

They have gone for it many times on 4th down.  And prior to several of these (almost all) JA tries to lure them off sides.

Rewatching the highlights, this fourth down along with a series of 5 or 6 other plays happening (or not) are the only reason we won. It’s wild how close we came to losing.

Remember:

-the almost diving INT from Indy in the end zone

-them going for it instead of kicking what would’ve been the tying fg

-Josh fumbling with three Indy guys around him

-Indy hitting the post missing an eventual would-be game tying fg

honestly it makes sense. We are a cam fumble and a softttt Rams pass interference away from being 11-5. We’re a solid, beatable team that’s going to need some luck down the stretch.

We also made a bunch of plays to win. And we could have been 14-2 if not for a miracle lucky Hail Mary. It’s all perspective. Good teams shockingly seem to have more “good luck”. Bills shouldn’t apologize for playing a B game against a really good Colts team who played their A game. And they won.
- The almost int Brown was held no call and the DB dropped the ball.

-DW recovered that fumble because he wasn’t gonna let the Colts get it

I expect the Bills to play better after a down game that  followed about 6-8 weeks of fantastic football.
