People are wrongly disappointed - we just beat a very good football team - one better than their 11 & 5 record

Special Teams: Colts #2 the Bills # 11 (https://www.lineups.com/nfl-team-rankings/special-teams)

The Colts were a very difficult match up for the Bills. Buffalo’s success has ridden on Josh Allen’s arm this season and the Colts had a perfect game plan to overcome that. They nearly pulled it off. However, be happy with the W because the Bills just beat a very good team.

  • BuffaloBill changed the title to People are wrongly disappointed - we just beat a very good football team - one better than their 11 & 5 record

This is what I’ve been saying.  Their offensive game plan and execution was better than our defensive gameplay and execution except in the red zone.  That and Josh Allen was the difference in the game.   The Colts proved that they are one of the most balanced teams in the NFL and defeating their A game in the playoffs in a close hard fought game should benefit Buffalo moving forward.

This is very true. People that were dismissing the colts saying we were gonna steam roll them were sadly mistaken.

They beat the titans and Greenbay and put up 40+ a few times.

There were some causes for concern but also causes for optimism.

That team gave us all they had and we didn't play our best game at times and we still came out on top even after getting shafted on the fumble call.

That is a potential HOF qb who was playing for his potential last run with a stacked team.

Let's go!

Probably the most complete team in the playoffs, just not very flashy outside of Taylor. And holding him to 78yds is a win, IMO.

If we play the Titans, it will be another game like this one.

In the sense that it could be a close game, sure, but their defense has played like hot trash.  They are explosive though.

I don’t think anyone is disappointed. But I think there is some concern that what the colts did can be replicated, and we want to know how the Bills will respond to a similar game plan.

not only replicated but done at a higher level of execution .

Except the Titans D is terrible and they are much more explosive on O. That would likely be a shootout.

Maybe but they have to be good enough to do it tho. Most teams have more weaknesses than the Colts do and likely our D plays better.

That is my hope. But it seems like the remaining playoff teams all have the talent in the right spots to do a lot of similar things.

I think what helps is that most teams play their own styles. For example, I don’t see the Steelers rushing 3 or 4, and dropping everyone else into bend don’t break zones. That’s not their MO.   They’ll blitz and mix coverages and take more risks.

I agree, the Colts have the best O-Line in the NFL. Their D-Line is also top 5 and they were hit with injuries. This was a huge win, at least we won’t see a O-Line and D-Line like that again.

Pittsburgh doesn't. They are one of the worst running teams in the NFL and Big Ben is kinda shot.

I would say Pittsburgh's D line might be better with TJ Watt and Cam Heyward.

I can understand them wanting to play better, but disappointed in a win is not an emotion I am capable of.

Areas of improvement:

1.  Special teams.  Bad field position for many drives.  Poor tackling, a penalty, bad decisions to field punts and run out of the endzone.  Might have been their worst game of the season.

2.  TE coverage.  Still afflicts this team.

3.  Running the ball.  Has to be more from the OLINE and RBs.  There has to be more.

4.  QB pressure.  Just wasn't enough of it.

Go Bills!!!!

I was shocked at the amount of people who wanted Indy in the first round. They scared me more than anyone but possibly Baltimore.

We just beat a really good team without our A game in a grinder of a game. Today is a very good day.

I literally just wrote that.  Scoring 47 points per game, as the Bills have over the past 3 weeks is not sustainable in the post season.  There will be playoff games like this one.

Colts fans are really going blaming Reich for the loss.  IMO he put together a great game plan.  The 4th down call was a good call but a bad result.  The only thing you can fault him for is wasting a challenge on the fumble.  Not sure why he called that

The Colts have a top 3 defense and probably the best O-Line. There is maybe one other team that might be able to replicate that game plan and that’s the Ravens. If any other team tries  that game plan they will get smoked with a 40 spot.
