Very surprising for someone who is a pretty polished receiver.   Usually it's the less athletic/coordinated receivers that have to pick up their feet to concentrate on catching the ball.   TJ Graham would be an extreme example.......he couldn't catch anything without jumping.  You simply can't jump yourself out of bounds there.  Slow down......stake your feet........take a PI........but don't do that.   For a receiver that's like a QB taking a sack on third down to knock you out of field goal range.  From what we've seen I think he is capable of taking that pass on the run but it's on tape now so he can expect DB's to anticipate him leaving his feet on boundary throws and then simply escorting him out of bounds for easy stops.         

He has a single credited drop.

Yeah and Knox rewarded him with a huge 3rd down and 11 conversion on the game ending drive as well as a huge PI at the goal line on the drive before.

I think the difference is this. When he benched Moss, OK. We plug Singletary in, and there's not really a performance drop-off. I feel like Moss and Singletary are somewhat interchangeable. I think the circumstances are different too. Moss is a rookie who fumbled the football from inside his own end zone, directly leading to a TD (ball ended up at like the 3 yard line, but still). Johnson had a couple drops, but were not game-altering plays. Not a huge drop on an easy catch for a TD, or a drop that turned into a pick-six.

I think the difference is this has been a multiple game issue for Johnson. I think he leads the league in drops. Sunday Night was the straw that broke the camel's back. Tomlin has tried the encouraging and he has tried the calling him out in the media verbally to send a message and it hasn't worked. Eventually you have to show there are consequences for making the same mistakes over and over. Tomlin was not just thinking about the Bills game. He was thinking about sending a message for the stretch run and the post season. 

 

I hear Sal on the morning show and those guys seemed to think it was an egregious error by Tomlin. I didn't. I thought it was absolutely the right move.

All these receivers are guys he trusts. Even when Knox drops balls, he has to be involved in the offense because his speed and rac ability, make him dangerous on off schedule Allen scrambles and screens. His pass interference at the goal line play was big. Please don't complain about Davis. The guy is going to be elite and he is a big athletic receiver that can  high point balls when Diggs and Beasley are double teamed. This receiving corps is a big part of Josh's development to top 5 QB status.

If you stopped throwing to every receiver who has dropped a ball, there would be no one to catch the ball.

Silly premise. 

Should McD have benched Allen after a fumble and interception in the first half?

Should Beasley and Davis quit on Allen after he missed them badly when they were wide open?

This is not Madden. Nobody makes every catch. Knox gets open more than any TE they have had in years. If he is open keep throwing him the ball. He should be no more than the 4th or 5th most targeted player with the weapons they have on offense. But he should get a designed play or two a game to use his size and speed combo.

Davis has been amazing all year. Why mess with his head over one dropped pass?
