Trump holds up military budget and funding over Social Media censure earmark

...and was slapped down by the Senate.

As we have seen in the past, Trump does not care if Rome burns to the ground while he fiddles and golfs, and certainly cares more about personal vendettas than he does about running the country.

In this case Trump demanded that his poison pill earmark to get rid of Section 230 be a part of the military budget or he would VETO it. This is the over 700 billion dollar budget that basically runs our military, pays our soldiers, etc...   Reminder that Section 230 is related to the mechanism that protects and allows a Social Media company to flag the endless diarrhea of lies that come from Trump and other enemies of democracy (Russia, China, and Iran) to be flagged as such so some Trump cultists may have a small chance at breaking free of the cycle of conspiracy and disinformation.

The Senate used a super majority to slap him down.

More about Section 230 - In fairness there should be some kind of bi-partisan effort to review the accountability of large social media platforms and codify what their liability should be, but it is a slippery slope around free speech, and when does free speech becomes something that needs to be checked: harassment, libel, witness intimidation, dangerous incitement to violence, or when used as a tool leveraged by political or foreign actors to spread disinformation to destabilize out nation.

He hasn't vetoed it yet they just seemingly have the votes to override it if he does.

Subtle, but valid point.

So he can still veto the bill, but the super majority overrides that veto. Since it is a lost cause, I fully endorse Trump issuing a veto so it can be crushed :)

I mean it's important some Republicans might flip not wanting to override him.

Possibly, but now that the feckless attempt of Texas to sue other state's election bodies in the Supreme court has died, those spineless anti-democratic Trump groupies can claim they did their best and begin to slither back under their rocks and pretend to do their jobs again. McConnell is going no where and he has more sway over what they do now than a lame duck president on his way out.

There is too much self-interests from both sides of the isle to vote against this country's military budget. No one wants the stigma of voting against paying our soldiers on their opponents campaign agenda.
