With Brown hobbled this year they have really lacked that 9 route specialist.

 

Gabe Davis hopefully turns into a very good #2 WR but he doesn't have the deep speed to be that guy........they've tried and he can't get the CB off his hip.

 

That deep guy doesn't have to be a #1 or #2 but preferably he is fast and at least over 6' and can track the deep ball.

 

 

I advocated for drafting Johnny “Juice” Hightower specifically for the go-route role...turns out he tracks the deep ball about as well as I apply makeup 🤣

Worth noting that he made another really big play that almost nobody saw because of the power outage during the Dolphins game.  You get the sense that Daboll will always have a gadget player so in the spirit of continuity I don't see why it can't be McKenzie for another 1 or 2 seasons.

I don't see the Bills using a high draft pick on a WR in next year's draft.  The WR room is deep on this team.  The top 4 WRs are under contract next year.  I could see the Bills trying to get a speed WR later in the draft.

 

I could see high draft picks at OT (both Williams and Nysekhe are FAs), LB (Milano is FA), CB (Norman FA), or DE (Murphy FA).  They may try to bring some of these back but doubt Norman and Murphy are coming back.

He is a solid role player on the team.  It all boils down to price and available alternatives.  For example, I've seen some mock drafts that have Buffalo picking up Rondale Moore in the second round of the 2021 draft.  He would be the same type of player as McKenzie, but he has more upside.  If the Bills were to draft Moore, then seeya, Isaiah.  That's cold but its the way the NFL works.

This is just my opinion, based on non-scientific eyeballs, but I think all our receivers have leveled-up this year since Diggs arrived.

 

For example, one Diggs trademark is "late hands". He'll extend his arms or hands at the last moment so the DB can't use that motion as a signal the ball is coming.

 

Guess what I saw on McKenzie's TD.  He is slowly but surely becoming more than a "jet sweep" guy.

 

I would love to see us re-sign McKenzie but it's gonna depend upon what he wants (or can get from other teams) and who else we want.  For example, Daryl Williams is only 27; he's here on a 1 yr deal.  So far I'm thinking "yeah baby, resign that dude" but, $$

I don’t think there’s any way Daryl Williams and Jon Feliciano don’t get signed.. Don’t see any way we draft a LG high either.. so much invested into Ford.. that’s probably the one weak spot on our OL.. Think you go either LB, CB or DT with that first pick..

Hodgins is in no way a candidate for the role McKenzie fills.  Hodgins is a tall, sure-handed route runner who is always open 2 feet over his head.

I tend to disagree with that as he brings a very unique perspective and play set that usually can't quickly be taught to a rookie particularity a low drafted marginally talented one.  While you could easily draft a more talented overall player, you won't likely find a rookie that can run all the plays he runs.  The one exception may be Isaiah Hodgins, could be he's been told already to shadow McKenzie and learn his role and responsibilities.  He actually may have more raw talent than McKenzie so he could be the one cheap asset that potentially step in as a gain.

As many others have said, I like McKenzie. I think he has a role in this offense and has made some big plays for us this year. He's also great in the locker room. I assume he could be resigned for a relatively low salary and I think he likes his situation here. 

 

At the same time, I could see us drafting a guy to fill his role as well. I was actually hoping we'd grab Joe Reed (WR/KR from Virginia) with a late Day 3 pick this year to either replace or supplement McKenzie's role (the Chargers wound up taking him instead). Either way, I hope we draft a speed RB and a speed WR/gadget player this year. Doesn't have to be early picks, but we need to inject true speed into our offense. With the exception of John Brown, it's the one thing we're really lacking on that side of the ball at the moment.

You won’t find a more valuable WR5 in the NFL than McKenzie.

 

The specific things he does well benefit this offense and add a useful wrinkle. He can also fill in as a returner in a pinch.

 

They keep bringing in dudes to replace him, but he keeps hanging around.

 

I like McKenzie a lot, and if the cost isn’t prohibitive, I’d rather hang onto him than lose him.
