Which Defensive player has disappointed you most?

Recommended Posts

I still have trouble trying to comprehend how a Top 5 unit each of the last 2 seasons has become so epically bad. Sure, if you want to throw around excuses like Covid, Opt outs and injuries you may have an argument, but all teams are dealing with these circumstances.

Many expected with the acquisitions of Jefferson, Addison, Butler, Norman and drafting Epenesa this Defense would become even better. Not the case. Let's take a look.

Jefferson and Addison have been serviceable and steady, nothing mind blowing and I honestly  thought they would've be better once Oliver and Harrison took the next step. Not the case. Man we miss Star bad and I never thought I'd say that.

Tre has been good but even he doesn't seem to be his elite self lately. Norman and Wallace are nothing more than depth players. Taron Johnson is awful who gets schooled by mediocre rookies in coverage.

Milano is solid, when he's not in ICU. Edmunds saddens me because he such a freaky specimen but he has no idea what the concept of angles are and gets washed out of plays so often. Klein has compromising photos of McD, I'm sure of it because he has no business on the field making 6m a year.

Oliver and Harrison have been non factors often being blocked easily. Hughes has been less than stellar, I don't care what PFF says.

Even Frazier has had his issues with adjustments.

To me if I pick one it's Edmunds. He's regressed so badly he's actually becoming a liability. I just don't see him as our franchise MLB.

Who you got as most disappointing? And please, no "let's give them time to mesh" responses.

Oliver.. He’s supposed to make Edmunds and Milano’s job easier.. So far o-linemen have been getting to the second level regularly.. He’s supposed to be a pass rush specialist but he never gets any pressure... sure as hell cant stop the run! Can’t count how many times Edmunds and Milano have had to eat up OL so Poyer, Hyde and Marlowe can make the tackle.. Poyer is on pace for 130 tackles.. If this continues on our LBs and DBs are going to get hurt.. Oliver is very bad.

I'm disappointed with ALL  of the FA pickups.  Addison, Butler and Jefferson should have offset the losses of Phillips and Lawson. But they have done nothing so far and only Addison seems to make the rare play.   Klein is brutal. Matekevich only gets ST duty. Norman is a shell of his old self.  Going 0-6 on FA is what is killing this D.

Honestly it's been a big blob of disappointment. The lack of a one tech DT has made the DT position a mess, the DE's have been ok but still lacking in the pass rush, Edumonds and Milano are hurt and getting killed by the lack of a true one tech. The secondary hasn't been bad but they have had big struggles on third down.

Overall there are a multitude of issues with the defense. Some can hopefully be fixed with a trade for a one tech. But others are likely to remain issues.

Cool, another Edmunds thread. 🙄

Just kidding, but seriously....

The whole unit has disappointed me. Maybe the only ones still free from my ire are the safeties.

Well when you play badly you deserve your own collection of suck threads.

Fix it

Get better

Figure it out

Stop getting lost in the wash

Stop picking the wrong gaps

Stop missing tackles

Then all these threads magically dissapear.....

For me it’s the ones who get defensive when they get called out for whining about the defense on the same day as a divisional win... but that’s just me I guess.  It is amazing that they don’t understand that EVERYONE in team management already knows more about the teams short comings than any fan by an order of magnitude...but again that just might be a me thing...

Go Bills!!!

Wait, let me check our record and get back to you.

It’s been ugly at times. What team can’t say the same thing? We are not “there” yet, but we keep improving. I’m good with that! With a little luck we can make a run.

Has to be Tremaine Edmunds.

He went from what seemed to be an above avg LB that was ascending.

He now is performing at below replacement level and looks to be getting worse.

Hes what the great Bill Parcells would call, "a ball in tall grass......LOST"

I think Tremaine Edmunds is missing Star a lot more than we know.

Edmunds. He didn’t turn into the player we needed him to be. It’s time to move on. I hope we add a LB at the deadline and also draft a guy in round 1. The Bills haven’t had a stud, all around, game changing LB in forever. Not a fast coverage guy or a 2 down thumper. A guy that is just a monster out there putting fear into a ball carrier. A Cowart /Spikes type. We need one.

He is literally playing injured (not hurt). He has real flaws, but they have no one else, so he’s playing. He is basically a one-armed player right now. Factor that in.
