We only run to the left, so how are Dawkins and Williams even in the same conversation?

Williams also has 4 penalties this year (tied for most on team).

Williams has not been good this year.  I struggle with what people are seeing.  He is being asked to do so little, and you are noticing him far too often.

I also think Williams not being trusted is a huge reason why Allen is better throwing to right than left.  He can put his back towards Dawkins and feel confident.

Because you mentioned the sack/force fumble from the Jets game as one of your reasons for Williams being a weak link. I can't remember if it was the Rams or Raiders game but Dawkins got beat with a speed rush as well and the defender was in Josh's lap.

You're definitely in the minority in this thread right now thinking he's weaker than the guards but I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Why do you think Nsekhe can play guard?  I'm quietly a big Ty Nsekhe fan, so I'd like to know.

As far as I can tell he never has played guard in the NFL.  He's a quality swing tackle (IMO) who at this point isn't durable enough to play every game.

Here is an article I found when he was with the Redskins that Gruden used him some at Guard and the writer asked the question of Nsekhe playing Guard to Gruden after he started at LG against Dallas, which was not a resounding "Yeah he's great" but a, "Let's see what the Off-season brings":

https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/need-know-could-ty-nsekhe-be-redskins-answer-left-guard

This article a bit better with more detail about the Washington Football Team using him at Left Guard, again referenced just a little experience and the author thinking about Nsekhe at that position, certainly not a coach saying "Put him in!" by any means:

https://riggosrag.com/2018/04/24/washington-reskins-ty-nsekhe-solution/

"Regardless of whether the Washington Redskins elect to draft an interior lineman, Nsekhe could be the best option.  Although he made only one start at guard in 2017, Nsekhe has impressed in game situations. Nsekhe is one of the more versatile players along the offensive line..."

Buffalo Rumblings also makes a brief reference to Nsekhe possibly being used at Guard in 2019:

Guards just have a less factor on the game.  A mediocre guard you can get away with.  You can't get away with a bad tackle.

Our guards are so bad that it makes me sick watching them play. We need 2 junk yard dogs at guard that have some athletic ability. Our guards look so ***** uncoordinated im surprised they can walk through the tunnel at halftime without tripping over something. We are losing the battles in the trenches big time on both sides of the football and it is frustrating as hell to watch. New O-line coach, I don't give a ***** pluck someone from the 49ers staff like their running game coordinator, 2 new guards and better depth for next year. Did I mention our guards suck ass x1000

Ford is a worthless pile of goo

Now our tackles are no good, everyday we get worse and worse. How are we 5-2 if everyone on this team sucks?

Brian Winters is the only one who sucks on the OL and Mitch Morse is a candidate for the most misspent money FA. Other than that the OL ain’t hateful. Where is Feliciano??

Williams has come a long way in just 1 year to be named 2nd team all pro for the first ¼ of the season considering the injury. Dawkins is pretty average and I wouldn't signing a really good LT and moving him inside where Ford is struggling badly. I think Dawkins would be better inside. Another stud at RG would be awesome too. Feliciano and Winters are pretty mediocre as well.

Personally my view has always been Ty is a left tackle. That is by far his best position. He has done some guard and obviously he played some right tackle for us last year but he is a kinda replacement level starter at those spots. By far his most natural position is left tackle and that spot is so important that having a quality vet like Ty as your backup is a nice luxury.

I have wondered about this (I am no o-line coach, so I really have no credibility in this opinion), but I have wondered if he is a legitimate option at Guard? .... Regardless, he has proven to be a reliable OT, either side. I never worry when he is put into the games. If the idea is to get the best five people out there, then why not consider him at a Guard spot?

I meant OL, and specifically the OG. Of course it came out wrong.

Guard is an area of weakness and Quinton Spain is a free agent who could be a solid signing.

So now we need a ot on top of a g, te, rb, de, dt, lb, and cb by the trade deadline. Beane is gonna be a busy man

If we can upgrade at backup QB also that would be great.

Good points GB.  Whether it’s right or left tackle, he’s solid, it’s just that he gets hurt a lot.  He’s 35 and not the future. He’s good depth for now.
