Zimmer played pretty well. KC doubled Oliver a lot from what I saw on the tv angle.

Meh, he played ok... he had a few plays but got blown off the ball, I'm not sure I'd use pretty well.

KC was using a lot of combo blacks, in run game and the Bills didn't have a DT to suck those up.

i certainly understand the comments about Zimmers poor play but he was a PS guy,.    How do you explain Oliver?  top 10 overall draft pick...if i am not mistaken Oliver was not on field for the last game deciding drive by KC   (Hurt??)

I think Jordan didn't fit the teams mentality - - don't show off during a game!  Sadly, we're left with Trent, Harrison Phillips and Hughes.

Exactly culture over talent and this is what that gets you

Maybe he could play for us when is inactive for Miami, you know, as has been happened in the season

I get your sarcasm/snottiness- there really is not a place for that here.

Never a fan of a small DL - Oliver really has been bad. PFF, of course not always spot on, has Oliver graded out at 55. Thats at the bottom and deemed “replaceable”. As of now. oliver is a whiff on Beane/McD.

Yes I suppose I mean he made some plays for a practice squad guy..... he is far from the answer for the Bills at the position.

No Zimmer can't handle the double team combo block... But he was winning his one on ones more than any other D.lineman last night.

Truth is we need a stout 1tech nt to be successful in our defense against good running games or we get gashed repeatedly.

What exactly does that mean. We play two linebackers 80 percent of the snaps.
Doesn’t middle only pertain when we have a base defense out there?

In regards to Edmunds - perhaps he's not suited to be a LB in our nickel defense. It could simply be a scenario where our system doesn't match our players -which is scary because we spent a lot of draft capital on players for this system.  I keep waiting for his speed and length to be a factor, but he's playing reactionary, rarely penetrates and seems lost in coverage.  Right now it seems like we have a lot of guys better suited to be defensive ends or a outside linebackers in a base defense, trying to play in the middle of the defense and it isn't working.

The Problem is our coaches think there scheme is a good of a fit with our DLine.

Mc Dermott needs to get a Bigger and more Aggressive DT's in the line up

BTW I wanted Jeffery Simmons in the Draft when we got Ed Oliver.

Mississippi St DL play with an aggression

Don't know which hot take thread it belongs in, but from the Mahomes post-game, "once we saw how far off their LBs, DBs, and safeties were playing, we knew we could just lean on the run game."

Plain and simple, even in the rain, our defensive strategy this game was to take away Hill, Kelce, and the deep threat. Yea we'll give up yards on the ground but it'll slow the game down and it'll slow Mahomes down. Well, it did. It kept us in the game longer than it looked like. The problem is still of course the DL who can't anchor that kind of strategy. This Zimmer take is hilarious, he was obliterated on almost all running plays and certainly all where he was double-teamed. Not a knock against him alone, we have no DT presently capable of standing ground against a double team. Oliver is not that 1T, and frankly think he's still learning to trust his knee a bit more.

This from today's Athletic article says a lot about this strategy last night actually:

Quote

The Chiefs ran the ball on first down 19 times throughout the game. Those 19 carries resulted in 139 yards and a 7.3 yards per carry. Three of those first downs came in the fourth quarter when the Chiefs were trying to run down the clock. If you remove those three attempts and resulting yardage, the Bills gave up 137 yards on 16 carries for an average of 8.6 yards per carry on first downs. Of those 16 carries, 15 of them went for at least 5 yards and the other one went for 4 yards. If you’re looking for a culprit on defense, their lack of wins on first downs is a great place to start.

It doesn't get better, most of that was a Jefferson/Oliver combo getting taken advantage of. The rest were all rotated guys who suffered equally. I think this is an important point considering what we're all griping about from last night. This was a direct consequence of our strategy - allowing short/ground yards to eliminate big passes and chunk plays. It worked, well in fact, but the problem was our DL was porous on 1st and 2nd downs not giving us anything manageable to stop on 3rd. This is the cornerstone of McD's defensive philosophy, fwiw.

Again, there's more than a few issues, including personnel - but my god we need to stop sharpening the pitchforks. All collective expectations for this team this season aside, winning teams all have bad stretches and blow outs, how they respond the rest of the season defines the team they are and will be. Again, my hope has been checked for the remainder of the season unless some fundamental strategies are worked out, and guys get healthy. But I find it hard to reason we'll be this team the rest of the season.

No no, if the Bills have bad games they must be flogged by fans, in the media, and flog themselves publicly until all confidence in their ability to play football is beaten out of them.

Oliver might be one of the worst draft picks the last 20 years.

Remember all that tough talk from him about nobody can block him? It's actually true because you can't block someone that's tossed aside with no resistance play after play.

If I were Beane I'd try trading him to a 3-4 team where he can play end or fill a niche roll because he's definitely not an NFL caliber interior dlineman.

At best he is trending towards being a specialist.

Because he was sold as a poor man's Aaron Donald.

And instead he just plays like a 280-pound defensive tackle who gets bulldozed.

Good for a mop up sack here and there.

Well, I only caught one play where he got blown up so I can’t comment further.. I thought he was pretty solid compared to the rest of the DL..

Thats the problem a guy makes a tfl in the 4th quarter(almost the strip too)  and is suddenly like the rest of the game didn't happen
