The jet info is public info. There’s nothing private about it. It’s widely available to anyone who wants it regardless of whether or not it’s on twitter. It’s not secret. It’s not assassination coordinates or any BS like that. Stop pretending it’s private info because it simply isn’t in any sense of the word.

I literally just opened my flight tracker app and saw a private plane flying by (VTHMA out of Van Nuys. A Bombadier Global Express). No Twitter necessary. If I wanted to track someone’s private jet, I can do it without Twitter.

Tech journalist explains the issue better than I can: Elon Tries (Badly) To Defend The Banning Of Journalists As Twitter Starts Blocking Links & Mentions Of Mastodon

“First, he just ***** changed the terms of service to shut down the jet tracker, and made them so broad and vague that tons of tweets would violate the rule — including anyone using Twitter’s built-in location indicator to tweet a photo of someone else. Second, the location of his plane is public information. It’s not “assassination coordinates.” If Musk is worried about getting assassinated, hiding this account isn’t going to help, because the assassin will just go straight to the ADS-B source and get the data anyway. Third, I get that Musk claims his child was in a car that was attacked the other night, but there remain some open questions about that story. For example, the location where it occurred, as deduced by BellingCat, was not close to any airport.

Given that, it’s not at all clear how this is connected to the jet tracking service.

Furthermore, the LAPD put out a statement on this:

LAPD’s Threat Management Unit (TMU) is aware of the situation and tweet by Elon Musk and is in contact with his representatives and security team. No crime reports have been filed yet.

Which, you know, seems notable. Because if a stalker actually went after him, you’d think that rather than just posting about it on social media, he might contact the police?

But, most importantly, none of the journalists in question actually posted “real time” assassination coordinates for Musk. They had posted about this whole story having to do with content moderation decisions made by Musk. Hell, one of the journalists, Donie Sullivan, got banned for tweeting that LAPD statement.

So, yeah, it’s not about “equal treatment” for journalists. It’s about coming up with bull#### arbitrary rules that just so happen to ban the journalists who have been calling out all the dumb ***** Elon has been doing. Which, you know, was the kinda thing Elon insisted was the big problem under the last regime, and insisted he was brought in to solve.“

Spot on.  I vividly recall concerns over free speech rights being violated by social media sites employing 100's of former intelligence and other Federal government official assigned the task (exactly by whom we shall soon find out) to censor and misinform the citizens of the United States of America, suppress dissenting opinions and criticism along with blocking alternative opinions were met with statements such as "private companies can do whatever they want".  But now a certain element of the political spectrum sees the tape being pulled off the mouths of their opponents while some of their voices are being subjected to scrutiny and suddenly they've discovered the 1st Amendment.  Shocking, simply shocking.  But surprising?  No.  But don't worry.  I'm absolutely certain Uncle Joe's henchmen at the DOJ will concoct some excuse to investigate Twitter for some vague and undefined "national security" issue or pull in the IRS for some sort of personal undressing of Mr. Musk.  Count on it.  These creeps have no moral or ethical boundaries.

Do you have any issue with former politicians becoming lobbyists?

Do you have any issue with former military personnel working with A&D companies?

Did you have any issue with Cambridge Analytica stealing Facebook user data information and coordinating with the TrumPutin campaign in 2016?

Did you have any issue with Trump's special deal with Facebook in 2020?

stop pretending you know the ins and out on how info can be put out. its a private jet here is a video about it. AGAIN the guy running the tracking said he circumvented privacy in his own words.

i stated in a earlier reply that this rule will have issues. owning one of the biggest social media companies will have alot. again the verfication system i hear was a complete mess. those issues will be worked out over time one way or another. the question is why does it bring leftists such joy? what did he do to make you personally care so much and please dont act like you dont. obviously somthing has him spooked about transmitting his PRIVATE info. his location adds nothing to a story or goes along with your narrative "hes out to get them" because they...what? they said tesla sucks? they said he sucks and this is just a ploy to remove them? every dissenting tesla journalist is getting suspended. not seeing it. makes more sense a guy who is exposing powerful people is becoming paranoid to "probably" credable info he and his family are in danger. as you sit back and just assume having no idea what steps you would take being in that situation cause..you were told hes a enemy to your side.

right.

right.

I find it interesting because his purchase of Twitter was both newsworthy and an obviously terrible financial decision from the jump.

He promises to be pro-free speech but then just starts banning accounts critical of him. He makes up policy rules on the fly and then punishes those who aren’t immediately compliant, even if the policy is vague or confusing.

People applauding him went from this being about free speech, to it being about treating everyone fairly, to it being about showing lefties how they were treated by the previous ownership of Twitter.

All in all, my personal experience on Twitter hasn’t changed much. My wife mentioned she’s seeing more right wing accounts on her timeline than she did before but whatever. I just find the whole thing interesting and a bit bizarre.

I don’t have a personal vendetta against Musk. I think Teslas are great. SpaceX is cool. I just don’t think he’s some infallible genius at everything and I believe his overpaying for Twitter and actions since becoming the owner support that idea.

i dont think anyone really sees him as a infallible genius but at this point and time you should at least repect what he exposed so far. obviously twitter was doing things that they flat out lied about. the government was colluding with information that was allowed and banned to the american people. ill leave the biase out and just ask is it good that was exposed or do you want our gov controlling narratives and burying info at their whim. do you want the biggest social media platform doing nothing about child pornography? do you think citizens you disagree with should be able to freely talk out their point of views? if so then the leftists that are against musk for simply buying twitter are insanely biased..right? cause thats all he did up to this point.

so now he changes terms on the fly and maybe makes a mistake in enforcing..time will tell. but i think the action is understandable if his saftey is in jeopardy. pretty sure if you got info your wife was in danger and somebody was transmitting where you are at every moment you prob react. good or bad regardless you would do it esspecially if it was somthing as powerful as the US government. time will tell what he is going to do but as usual leftist jump right on the first signs of trouble and act as if its the end of journalism or twitter ect ect.

i am against doxxing. however it is done its very dangerous and has lead to people getting killed. swatting ect. so hopefully this rule is enforced fairly and with peoples saftey in mind. anyone against that for "free speach" purposes is comfortably in a situation they are not being targeted or biased. alot of assumptions are being made the instant a story or rule happens.

The government flagging items for a social media to review is not censorship if the social media company is free to act on the content as they want with no government coercion (see: the Pentagon Papers).

The example of a singular individual having an emotional reaction and using that to change major policies on a whim is maybe a good example of why companies like Twitter tend to have trust and safety departments to handle moderation policies.

Tracking of plane tail numbers, even in real time, is not PII and is therefore, not doxxing. That’s why there are several sites that allow you to do it for free.

we have a difference of opinions on whether the gov was simply flagging and saying please review this. seeing as the gov was disseminating a ton inaccurate info on covid for a main example should be a good example people should be against this. im 100% sure if it was a republican held gov you feel a bit stronger. i dont want it in any situation regardless who is in power.

i wouldn't call it a major policy. again doxing is wrong. period. i gave you a full vid to watch showing how the protection of PRIVATE info was circumvented. so either your for people not only doxing but also circumventing people who are getting specific things done to prevent it, ignoring the vid i gave or both

It was a Republican government doing it. A lot of this happened under Trump’s administration.

I have not had a chance to watch the video. I’ll get around to it if I can but I’ll stand by drawing a line between PII and non-PII where doxxing is concerned. Especially when that non-PII is easily available elsewhere.

trump may have been president but i assure you republicans were not involved in getting twitter to censoring anything on their behalf. they banned the guy for now proven made up reasons stopped a story about his opponents son from being shared ect ect. just shows how biased gov agencies who should have no political affiliation have become.

fair enough. watch it when you get time. pool is considered right wing extremist but i think he is fairly straight forward with info.

I think you're going out on a bit of limb there. There are very justifiable and even good reasons the FBI, even Trump's FBI, would reach out to a social media company to request they review something. What about when China was using almost 200,000 bot accounts to spread propaganda about Taiwan? Should the FBI have just sat on its hands instead of alerting private companies?

The crucial point is: was the social media company coerced by the government to act? As in, if they reviewed the item and left it up, would they be punished? So far, I haven't seen anything that says the answer is "yes". It looks like they flag stuff and Twitter reviews it and comes to their own determination. I fail to see how that is a first amendment issue. It's completely fair to criticize the actions Twitter took, but it's a tremendous leap to say that they are just following the orders of the FBI.

I did get a chance to watch the video tonight, thank you for sending it. I independently found Elon's tail number in about 1 minute of googling, none of which involved the guy from ElonJets. But that doesn't matter, because plane tail numbers aren't PII.

I am against doxxing. We shouldn't allow the public posting of PII. I'm glad that important people like SCOTUS have security and the guy who threatened Kavanaugh was arrested. But this isn't that, no matter how much people want it to be. It's not the same as posting where his car is. It's not the same as posting where his house is. Planes are heavily regulated airport-to-airport vehicles and the owner of a plane might not be on it for any particular flight. Trying to say it's the same as putting a tracker in their car or posting their home address just isn't convincing. The guy who went after Elon's son (thinking it was Elon) was wrong, but Elon's overreaction to it just proves that one person shouldn't be making these decisions on a whim.

@BillStime should be banned for posting this. Jordan Poyer could have intercepted that plane if he had seen this post.

Musk unbanned all those Right Wing accounts and then started banning anyone who covers him critically without explanation (there’s no evidence that I’ve found that all of those journalists were tweeting live location data).

He can do that. It’s his right as the owner of the platform. But it’s exactly the same thing everyone here was complaining about Twitter doing before he bought it. Now it’s all fun and games and totally fine.

He can apply the rules equally, but doesn’t seem to want to. He could actually go full free-speech but he doesn’t seem to want to. And that’s his right.

I’m just not going to pretend he is doing something he clearly isn’t interested in.

Worst case scenario the script flipped, and Twitter is now what it was before.  The world continued to spin, there were winners and losers, and it will be more of the same.  I don’t believe that, I believe de-libbing the platform will take some time, but again, no big deal.

Honestly, I think Twitter ultimately ends up somewhere near where it was before Musk bought it. It relies on ads for revenue and ad buyers want boring, non-controversial platforms for their ads.
