Bills release their social justice message

Wow...  A lot of awesome in this thread.  A few things...

If you watch sports, understand that the player is a person and they have freedom to express.  One of the wealthiest most profitable businesses in our world supports their employees doing it.  We should all be so fortunate.  There’s tremendous good here.  I totally support the players for the cause they’re uniting to discuss.  It’s noble and necessary in today’s world, but as a former footballer myself, I really love the thought of directing a young, wealthy man in the direction of nobility, and not leaving them to what they usually find.  To me, this is one of the best (and least discussed) victories in the NFLs history.  Like I said, there’s tremendous good here.

In the same breathe, not all MAGAs are as described - brainwashed, just as all BLM supporters aren’t fire starting anarchists.  For from it on both fronts  We’d all do well to remember that the players aren’t the only ones who are people. Your fellow fans are as well.  None of them deserve to be labeled as the world sees fit.

We’re all going into this season, election and the rest of the year fighting the same pre-conceived notions that got us here.  We think we know, but we need to just do better to hear others voices without instantly gravitating to their beliefs or affiliations.  Love people and appreciate their perspective even if you don’t agree with it.

One of the new partnerships in the NFL comes via Lowe’s (the hardware retailer).  I had the chance to speak with their new CEO, Marvin Ellison during a teleconference in August.  You talk about perspective.  Just a few minutes with Mr Ellison and I was amazed at his stance on our country’s current state and his focuses on making changes in that paradigm.  Suffice to say, his views were not what I expected.  It was refreshing as much as it was surprising.  He’s the kind of person that you hope one day decides to run for office.  Yet if I would have come to the conversation with my pre-conceived notion, I would have missed my chance to learn from him what he was willing to share.

I share this because I’m as guilty as any person of gravitating towards my own understanding instead of learning, listening and being a better version of myself.  Speaking personally, I lose 100% of the time when I think I know a person based on my perceptions or EQ, and don’t invest in learning more.

I hope everyone who is passionate about football, enjoys the game, the players sharing what’s truly important to them and what should be an incredible season.  We’ve been through hell and back as fans.  Wouldn’t it be fitting that the Buffalo Bills won it all in 2020, literally the worst year in history?

May your drinks be cold; your wings be hot and your voices be loud!

unless you use ranch.  Then we can’t be friends and I wish you war, death and famine.

I find the lack of a proper understanding of the "BLM" movement absolutely staggering.

BLM is a Marxist organisation that preaches evil Marxist doctrine - fullstop. Their own official website attests to this with no ambiguity whatsoever.

If you believe in individual responsibility and individual choice then you are by default idealogically opposed to BLM.

None of this means that you approve of mistreatment of minorities - or anybody for that matter.

Like the players - whose rights I completely respect - I will also be exercising my rights this football season by hitting the mute button whenever BLM is raised. That will be my form of protest.

Meanwhile I will continue to pray for those less fortunate than myself.

No, mixed market. It’s not socialism, there are elements that could be part of a socialist country but the economy is fed by the free market capitalist economy. Don’t kid yourself.

The 40 hour work week/overtime, medicare, medicaid, minimum wage, social security - these are all socialistic programs.

Every country is somewhere on the continuum between pure socialism and pure capitalism.    The Nordic Model of socialism - which leans more to the left than we do in the U.S. - produces countries/economies that seem to do well.  Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Sweden all score highly, for example, in the World Happiness Report.

I'm certainly not advocating socialism - merely pointing out a few things.

Oh, and I think it's great the Bills are giving a platform for their players to speak out on social justice.

Interesting, you think the 40 hour work week is exclusively a socialist program? Are you trying to say that it was born out of it?

I’ve heard of these “World Happiness Report” scores. This is a subjective measure. What is actually being asked? How is it being asked? What is the context? These things are created for fun, not to be taken seriously. We also have to understand the context of which they are understanding their happiness. For instance, if they’ve only known happiness relative to their socialist world, their idea of happiness is skewed to their neutered idea of happiness in a socialist country. There are many stories of Nordic people coming to our country and understanding how freedom and low taxes are better for happiness. If they were to be asked now, it would be a different story. It’s all subjective.

We are a mixed economy, BLM/antifa want a completely socialist/communist country. That is a very bad thing for this country.

Sounds like you just don't understand how bad things really are. WOW tone-deaf to the max.

Yes BLM is a Marxist organization and yes one of the founders is openly a Marxist. So what? There are a lot of goodness found in the gulag if you do the study. Stalin and Chairman Mao were generous and it's a misunderstanding that those 2 together killed more people than WWI and WWII combined. They were actually quite loving.

Black Lives Matter,

however,

some black lives matter more than others...

NFL players and the league itself are a day (or two) late and a dollar short with their support of BLM.  Where were they when thousands of minorities each year are/were being gunned down in the inner cities?  Where are/were they when thousands of innocent minority babies were murdered in utero?  Apparently unaware or those matters weren't deemed protest worthy.

Very interested to see how throwing in with BLM will affect TV ratings.  Because in 2021-22 several of the league's TV contracts will be up for extension (Fox, CBS, NBC, ESPN, and DirecTv).

I love what they produced, personally.

A friend of mine, who is black, way back in middle school (he was on the urban-suburban program) told me to watch a store manager watch him when we entered the CVS. Me, of course, being white, said, “You’re crazy!”

It happened. The manager followed him like white on rice AND called a police officer in. That’s when I was introduced to institutional racism...although I didn’t call it that then.

My stories go on and on but I know this: if your mind is what is generally considered the ‘extreme’ end (either right or left), chances are you’re wrong.

If one follows the most fundamental of teachings, in my opinion, one should recognize that hatred for the sake of hatred has no place in this world. Love, compassion and empathy does.

I’m not one to write long diatribes here, but this is important to every American. If all of us open our hearts and minds, we will ALL be better off.

crock of *****. you want to know why America has the 40 hour work week? because the rest of the "civilized" world has a 35 hour work week. we believe in harder work=better life. we built our lives upon that notion. Socialism only allows you to be slightly better. Capitalism allows you to shoot for the moon. World Happiness Report? sure. cocaine and hookers baby!!

did that particular store/city have a history of being shoplifted?by POC?  that's an important equasion in this matter. 50% of all crime is committed by 13% of this nations population. these are facts. can you understand why some folks might think negatively about other folks? I can go on all day....
