Last night they picked a very mild and inoffensive way of expressing that. Sh— is messed up in this country almost beyond repair right now and tuning it out is a luxury we can’t afford and don’t deserve. When I watch sports it's to escape all the other crap going on, I just don't feel its the time or place.. Play the damn game collect your check and if you want to be a person for change afterwords on your own time great more power to you. Simple fact of the matter is I will just tune out the beginning of games, and if it keeps up the NFL will loose me as a fan. I also really don't give an F that they are using their stage and time to do it. It's the same thing with going to a concert and hearing my favorite musicians talk about politics etc. A few minutes doesn't ruin the other 2-3 hours for me and I realize that it's a smart move to use their position like they are...heck, I'd probably do the same thing. Some may simply be racist (of that is the case then they are POS’s), but I’ll bet the large group is simply tired of the rhetoric. Also, equality in the way you mean it, wealth distribution, is socialism/eventual communism. The country never has and never will want it. That will always be a losing battle. It’s also a call for equality of outcomes which has never been promised, only equality of opportunity. That is what this country is founded on and is what has made this country the greatest in the world. It’s created jobs and wealth for, yes, even minorities. Equality is a nice word for a terrible idea! It will only lead to more discrimination when we are told you have to be a certain color, sex, race to be hired to meet an arbitrary quota. It’s something that’s real, though it’s not as deadly as thought and it kills mostly those who are above the national average life expectancy, but the spin the politicians and news media put on it is a “hoax” to instill fear. Fear makes it easy to control you. That said, make your own decisions, if you feel as though it’s too risky for you, don’t go to the game. Don’t disparage those who want to go, it’s their right and they’ve assessed the threat differently than you. So be it! Made me realize how far we've come, but also sad because we've not come far enough. When racist idiots boo people wanting to show they are united, despite skin color, how they worship, etc., I have no idea how that can be a bad thing. That is what America is all about. It shows lots of ignorance. Ignorance, prejudice and fear walk hand in hand. Would they have still booed if all the players were white? If they were all black? What if there was a confederate flag? There are still plenty of people threatened when people speak of others being treated equally. My Italian forefathers faced it when they came to the US. George Eastman wouldn't hir italians. It’s so strange that people take celebrities words for things seemingly just because of their celebrity status. Why does that make them more qualified to talk on issues? I’m sure there are intelligent well-learned individuals within the ranks and maybe they are worth hearing out, but by in large, it seems that celebrities have a superficial understanding of things.
