The cap is gonna catch up to Houston hard at some point

It’s going to happen to every team with a good qb.  If Allen is good enough to get this type of deal, the cap will caught up to us as well.  Qbs Take up way too much of the cap.  That’s why you can’t mistakes on paying one big money.  Watson, IMO, is a borderline top 5 QBs.  It was the worst trade ever with Hopkins but at least he got his money and they have some talent at wr.  It will be interesting to see how they do this year.

After letting Hopkins go they had to lock down Watson or the city of Houston would have burned to the ground and Bill O’Brien’s body would have been the kindling.

They actually have a lot of space going forward. Watson is literally the second long term commitment after Tunsil. Everyone else at the top end of that roster, Watt, Mercilus, Robey, David Johnson, Will Fuller could come off the books at negligible cost next year. The salary cap isn't even close to being an issue in Houston. A lack of top young talent is. Tunsil, Watson and Justin Reid apart their best players are up there age wise. Obviously Fuller a bit less so but they need to pay him.

That is probably true. But it won't be because of Deshaun Watson.

It will be partially because you can't pay one player like that and be a consistently great team, unless you have a Patrick Mahomes -- then you might have a chance. D. Watson is not P. Mahomes. If the Bills ever pay Allen like this, unless he has risen to Mahomes' level, my expectations of the team will necessarily go way down.

You would be better off building a great team and going through QBs on rookie contracts for 5 years each. Draft one every 3-4 years and let him develop until you let the old one walk. Some team is going to try this one day.

I disagree with this hypothesis. The salary cap is much more flexible than most believe it to be. You have to draft well... and that has been a problem for Houston since Rick Smith stepped down. But you can build around an expensive QB without that guy needing to be Patrick Mahomes.

It seems like every year Fuller pops a hammy. Terrific when he is healthy but his issues seem to be chronic.
