Ethan in Cleveland Posted August 9, 2020 Share Posted August 9, 2020 Base 4-3 DL Hughes, Oliver, Harrison, and Addison Subs base 4-3 Murphy, Jefferson, Butler, Johnson Run down/distance DL Epenesa, Harrison, Butler, Jefferson Nickle DL Hughes, Oliver, Epenesa, and Murphy/Addison Team is still weak at pass rushing DE. Maybe Johnson progresses but unlikely. Hopefully Hughes doesn't regress. My thoughts on PED Murphy have not changed but this staff likes him and he showed up in the Houston game. So I suspect he will rotate with Addison early in the season and whichever is playing better will get more snaps on the nickle DL. I also think Epenesa will see some limited action in run down/distance DE but will get more reps as an interior pass rusher on the nickle DL LB is easier. In the nickel, it will be Edmunds and Milano 90% of the time. In the base 4-3 they will start Klein and work in Joesph. I suspect by season end they will have equal number of snaps. Now that is what I think they will do... What I would do is... 1. Sign Clowney 2. Cut Murphy 3. Acquire a better backup option at MLB via trade or still available FAs. 4. Give Edmunds 8 more games at MLB. If he is not improving move him to OLB 5. Dial up more safety blitzes. Considering we need 4 backups for QB, LS, P, and K so that leaves 12. How they divide up will depend. At a minimum on PS, outside of previously stated we’d need at least one DB, one LB, one DL, one O Lineman, one RB, One RB, one WR, and one TE unless you choose two big WR’s. So by my St. Francis HS math, that’s 8. That leaves four slots so that two slots for four the above position groups mentioned. I’m glad I’m not McDermott and Beane this year. Talk about tough choices. These poor guys have to make so many decisions thinking of every contingency trying to anticipate every last thing that can go wrong. DL 2 would be Murphy, Phillips, Jefferson/Oliver, Epenesa/Jefferson. I think the DL is solid. I think Edmunds, Milano, and Klein is solid. But I have concerns about the depth underneath them. I am not overly pleased with LBs right now.Depth wise But have not seen the rotation yet. Klein and that Viking dude who plays teams : )) D line i feel has solid + depth at run and pass. and situational football Just who do they keep? Seems Murphy is on the bubble for many of you , and only for money reasons. same discussion for few years now lol He played well late last season. Health is his issue still ?? I think they want a backup kicker who can punt, do kickoffs and field goals - maybe not the best but someone who can play in a pinch. And SOMEONE please practice doing long snapping. It is very conceivable that they keep both kickers IMO. They could have Bass do kick offs and long FGs but he also gives them insurance against Haush going down in season. Addison, Oliver, Butler, Hughes Murphy, Jefferson, Harrison, Epenesa I would also like to see Oliver out at DE in some package. He ran a 4.7 40 and had a quick 3 Cone.... Just Bull rush the OT.... Addison, Oliver, Butler, Hughes The other reason I went with Butler is his familiarity playing with Addison. If you watch a lot of Addison's sack highlights, you'll see Butler setting him up. Hughes and Addision should start at DE with Murphy and AJ (and possibly Jefferson) working in.
