This morning, I was listening to a talk show.  The two hosts were suggesting this country has reached a tipping point, where we are completely beyond civil discourse.  The two political/cultural sides are so far apart, it's hard to believe we can ever find common ground.

I mean... we have reached the place where phrases like "All Lives Matter" and "Love God, Love People" are considered hateful and disrespectful.

I agree with the radio hosts. I believe bad things are a comin.

He literally said only elite whites should be able to buy guns and there has been a whole social movement going on.

You realize he doesn't actually hold that opinion, right? He was joking with a friend. I have made worse jokes than that. I guarantee every person in this thread could lose their job over something they've said in private at one point or another.

This is where people have a legitimate gripe with the way media reports things. Everyone reported the story as "Fromm says only white people should have guns." That is total nonsense. In context he was jokingly referring to himself as an elite white guy. I hate that I even have to explain this. I feel bad for Fromm. He didn't do anything wrong. Someone petty decided to try to ruin his career. That is 100 times worse than what he did.

What consequence would you have from

him? Your statement kinda seems like virtue signaling to me.

I have no idea what you are talking about.  It’s like you are purposely missing the point.  I have never gone to a website to get my information about BLM.  Most people I know are just about raising awareness to issues that are affecting people of color.  The far majority of people think it is idiotic to defund the police but rather reform and train better and hold bad cops accountable .

why is racial equality a thing some people try so hard to fight?

Unbelievable.

The website link I posted is the OFFICIAL MISSION STATEMENT for Black Lives Matter.  It is not just some website.  It is the official BLM website.

You are blindly supporting an organization without reading what it believes.

If you think it is idiotic to de-fund the police (we finally agree), then you are disagreeing with the very organization that you DEMAND people agree with!!!!!!!!!

I'm 100% for racial equality.  I do not believe BLM stands for racial equality.  I actually believe their ideas are damaging and destructive to the black community.

- I believe that in order to save more black lives, we need to stand-up for police who are doing their jobs right.  Not demonize them and defund them.

- I believe that in order to save more black lives, we need to take drug dealers and criminals off the street.  Not make it easier for them to commit crimes.

- I believe that in order to save more black lives, we need to promote the nuclear family and fatherhood.

- I believe that in order to save more black lives, we need to promote traditional Christian values, reject Marxism and socialism, and reject this idea that minorities cannot succeed in American society.

All of these ideas are completely opposite of BLM.

Sure. And I respect and defend his right to have one too. But when he uses it to answer a question like this then he has to acknowledge that people who don't share his world view are going to perceive that as a cop out.

I am getting concerned that those who DO share Fromm's worldview (or what they think his worldview is based on his brief comments) cannot admit he copped out and even after he said he wasn't going to answer the question.  They have equated any questioning of his response to an attack on his religion.  If you say anything that can be construed as scripture I guess we all lose our right to criticize lest commit heresy.

Eh, I think Fromm’s response was questionable also. Why not just say we need to love all people equally? He makes it sound as though the only people capable of this have to be Jesus freaks first.

Loving people equally as a response didn’t work out so well for Brees. He’s still apologizing because the world has turned upside down and backwards

Brees is a coward for apologizing. Shoulda said “suck my footballs” and his merchandise sales woulda gone through the roof.

Brees dodged a question and then wrapped himself in the flag.  Similarly to the Fromm situation, people were quick to change the story and focus on any criticism of Brees' comments as anti-flag and anti-american rather than accept that people were dissatisfied with him for avoiding the real question.

There is a power in deflecting and then waving the flag or your religion.

If I was in the public spotlight I would certainly deflect any question that has anything to do with race, religion, politics, etc. And I'm sure I would be attacked for that, but oh well. It's not the world's business what my personal opinions are on those things.

Yeah, when I post that Hitler was a bad guy, I'm basically giving him free publicity huh

No...I would have figured Hitler out for myself.  I never would have seen the tweet of this "NFL Reporter" if you hadn't posted it...I suspect others wouldn't have either.  No big deal, and sorry, i wasn't trying to criticize you...just in this day and age, it is the re-tweets and shares that cause silly things like this to blow up. It's a lesson I have to remind myself of sometimes too.

Completely agree. Which is yet another reason why I, like you, would not choose to hide behind that if in the public eye.

I think the term "de-fund the police" is a terrible choice of messaging...but I don't think it means what most think it means.

You got that right. Suddenly the robot Belichick interviews make more sense.

Good God, you mean because Fromm failed to use the word "equally" you are still going to give him bull$$it for his remarks?

eball, you have a weird interpretation of words.
