Trying to set up for Salary Cap flexibility moving forward seems wise -- we finally seem to have a Front Office that is getting out in front of things, rather than being far behind everyone else. Portends well for the franchise for the future.

GunnerBill
Think I predicted something like this a few months ago. You can get Diggs to do anything you want with his money later by frontloading it a bit now because of the contract they inherited.
BornAgainBillsFan
I trust Beane and his staff implicitly. How long has it been since I could say that? Polian?
IgotBILLStopay
was expected. Diggs’ two main complaints in Minnesota (9reading between the lines) were a. shift to a run heavy offense that ignored him early in the season b. underpaid in terms of guaranteed money you don’t give up a first round pick for a player you wouldn’t keep next season or two - so why not add the guaranteed amt - keep the player happy and add to the flexibility in 2022-

boater
Nice to see Beane paying attention to the bean counter side. Such an improvement since when Rex and Doug would commit to a player, then throw the contract talk over the wall and tell the contract staff (Oberdorf?) to work it out. And the result = an overpaid player. Good to see Beane taking care of details.

Punching Bag
2022-23 cash from $25.55m to $22.67m - Is that supposed to be an option year and put in so to extend number of years signing bonus spread out when Vikings extended him?

Not really, his contract extension he signed with the Vikings ran thru the 2023 season. It seems the Bills just front loaded it more with some more guaranteed. I'd pump the brakes a little. He overpaid for Star and Murphy. Signed an over the hill Gore and signed a DB that quit at halftime. Evaluate each move on its own. This is a good move. It puts more money in Diggs' pocket now hopefully avoiding a contract squabble later. Its a good gesture to hopefully avoid future headaches.
