Eagles Bringing 38 Year-old Jason Peters Back to Play Guard **Edit** Now Moving Back to Left Tackle

Recommended Posts

1. Spring chicken compared to Brady and Brees

2. The iggles can only do 1 year deals given their 2021 cap situation - so probably a smart move by them - they need to hit on their draft picks to get young talent on the cheap in the coming years since they have no cap (w)iggle room.

3. And I am not upset AT ALL about the Peters trade. Yes we lost a Probowl OL - but people forget that Peters wanted a huge contract, was hurt a lot in the immediate aftermath of the trade and we netted Eric Wood. I'd still do that trade even knowing how well Peters worked out for the iggles. Our long playoff drought WAS primarily due to the shoddy QB situation and I doubt having Peters with us for huge $$ instead of Wood would  have changed that.

You're not wrong about the trade itself, but it was deeply symptomatic of the dysfunction of the Jauron/Gailey years, where it was apparent that finding and keeping high quality talent was going to continue to be difficult.  Why would a guy like Peters want to play here long term, when he could get much more money, and much more WINNING somewhere else?

I think we should have paid him.

Exactly.  Bills could use a decent guard.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s an all pro at guard as well.

Really?  He was an All Pro 7 years ago.  He's 39. He's been signed at a new position because the starter is injured.

Smart move.

The natural move for an all-pro LT is to squeeze out another year or so playing guard. Similar to when the stud CBs move to safety.

I was always a huge fan of his from the day we signed him as an UDFA. Who can forget his blocked punt his rookie year?  But I also am not all that mad that we traded him away; the relationship went too far south to really repair.

Former Eagles left tackle Tra Thomas says the move for Peters would create more questions than answers at the position.

“It’s extremely difficult,” Thomas told NJ Advance Media. “First of all, he hasn’t been in a right-handed stance in years ... Being able to get used to being on the opposite side of the field, when you’ve been in a left-handed stance for 15 years now, there’s a lot of muscle memory that goes into that. Two, you’re going to say you’ve got to switch to right (side) and bump down to guard? That’s asking a whole lot from someone with this quick turnaround of time because in a (few) weeks you’re in training camp ... That (expletive) ain’t easy.”

Stop talking rationally, it confuses people.

Oh the days when he blocked a punt and returned it for a TD against Cincinnati in 2004.

How the heck did he go UDFA with his ability?

Because he was a 290 pound tight end that never played tackle before

He had alot of technique to learn and how to read stunts and twists which isn't easy

Gotcha, but his athletic ability alone should have been worth him being drafted at some point.
