I hate "yes and it counts!" Makes no sense.  Yes means "it went in," so of course it counts.

Nope.  It’s a continuation play.  If the player isn’t deemed to be in the process of shooting when the foul is committed then the basket doesn’t count.  So the saying makes perfect sense.

I’ll add one, but probably belongs in a nickname thread.  Berman had a bunch but my favorite was always Bert “Be Home” Blyleven.

Not from a game, but whenever the wife and I are in the car parking to go into a store, and I luckily find a spot right in front, I do my best Bob Uecker impersonation and deliver that chestnut from an old Miller Lite commercial, "Must be in the front row."

Nice try, but that is not what he means when he says "Yes! And it counts!"  If he meant what you say, then sometimes he would say "Yes, but it doesn't count."  He only says it when it's a continuation play, the foul was called, and the shot goes in.

What he means when he says "Yes, and it counts!"  is "yes, and he was fouled!"   So he's using words - "and it counts" to mean "and he was fouled," which doesn't make literal sense.

But he's done it for so long, everyone knows what it means, and it's a signature call.

"You have to go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't go to yours."

Regarding the "fork in the road" quip, Yogi explained it in "The Yogi Book." A friend was coming to visit, and Yogi was giving him directions to his house. The directions included the famous line. Yogi concluded, "My friend made it to my house, so I guess the directions were okay."

I try to remember that whenever I dwell on past mistakes. In general, I'm happy with where I am in life, so the road that got me here, good decisions and bad, must have been okay.
