He's an upstate New Yorker thru and thru. Gotta love him for that.

The Rex Ryan hire? Not so much.

I don't know if this will have legs or if it will even get shut down, but I think it's way past time to pay tribute to THE Man.

I will start with some of the low-hanging fruit:

I think one of the greatest myths carried amongst a lot of our fanbase is/was that Russ Brandon is some sort of irreplaceable marketing genius who by some miracle was selling tickets and single-handedly was making the Bills solvent.

He did 2 good things and they were early on in his tenure.  Moving training camp to St John Fisher and creating a fan event out of it was one.  It was a trend-setter throughout the NFL, however, now teams seem to be moving away from that effort a bit and reeling things back closer to their headquarters.  Somebody else would have thought of it eventually anyways.  The second thing was hitting the pavement during "business backs the bills" days selling enough premium seats to businesses to justify the renovations in the late 90s.  Flutie mania had a lot to do with the uptick of sales, but Brandon worked hard at it.

Both those things earned the respect and adoration of Ralph Wilson, who gave him the keys to the kingdom so to speak.  Russ Brandon did always want to be a GM.  Baseball GM moreso, but he got his opportunity in football.  From day 1 he intended on breaking through to that side, starting with John Butler teaching him.

Absolutely nobody is rushing to make this guy team president.

Especially not when he demanded the title:  "His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Doctor Russel Brandon, VC, DSO, MC, CBE, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the NFL in North America in General and New York in Particular",

Tailgating and a lawless party atmosphere sold tickets.  Not Russ Brandon

I think we should put up a statue of Russ Brandon.

Just so we have something to tear down after we win the Super Bowl.

This will work fine!

So @Rico is this the unofficial start of the RW pictorial thread that so many upstream have been clamoring about? If so,

I have yet to do a deep enough dive to see if there is enough good material on Ralph. :(
