Money for Nothing - Dire Straits

Island Woman - Elton John

Yours?

Our local rock stations play the version of "Money for Nothing" with that entire verse completely omitted.

I always liked, "Island Girl," but those lyrics!!!  They've given me pause for years!

I see your teeth flash, Jamaican honey so sweet
Black boy want you in his island world

Well she's black as coal, but she burn like a fire
And she wrap herself around you like a well-worn tire

That is friggin' horrible!

I’m going to argue with the wording of the title.

It’s one thing to say a song would not fly, but the implication is that songwriters still want to write about those things. I would suggest that in 2020 most artists would never write many of these songs in the first place. At the very least, public consumption of many of these songs would be greatly reduced making them unpublishable.

I’ll add Gary Puckett “Young Girl” to the mix… While all those ***** bags like Jeffrey Epstein may enjoy the sentiment, there is no longer a mass audience for that song in 2020.

Pretty soon, the way things are going:

Francis Scott Key - The Star Spangled Banner

I am not going to derail this, but that is an interesting story with a mixed history.

There's an old Sly Stone song that would be off limits for sure.  Ice T & Jane's Addiction did a good version of it, too.

It's weird. Music, movies, books & art should be off limits for anything pc or non-offensive.  We lose a lot by not allowing full creativity and freedom of expression in those areas.

And if that wasn't bad enough -- He made her a prostitute!

I'm fine changing the title, as that's what I was going for.

Ever see the video for that song? The guy with the pitchfork disturbs me.

Half Breed: Cher

China Girl: Bowie

...and this one, not sure how this ever past the mustard: (dang already posted)

Beneath your perfume and your make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know that it's wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes
