machine gun kelly Posted June 2, 2020 Share Posted June 2, 2020 Well, it’s a crap shoot as Hauscka has been 78.9% for the last two years, but from 2012-2017 he floated from the low to high 80’s%. Bottom line is he has slipped a bit, but he did have an injury in 2018. It’s true Bass was 71.4%, but his average is 79.8% for the three years. 2018 was over 90.5% in college. The other thing is House $ doesn’t seem to have the leg for the kickoffs as much anymore, and Bass has a leg that boom kicks. We probably won’t know until they come out of training camp. The only last piece Beane May consider is Bass is considerably cheaper than House. TC and Preseason games will decide this for sure. Hauscka will have to prove he still can make a 50+ kick. He's another year older and the simple fact the Bills went with a 6th round pick means to me it's an open competition. FWIW I feel even if Hauscka is cut I don't think another teams picks him up. Haush found his accuracy inside 49 this past season which has value. But I agree Bass should be able to beat Haush out for the spot. Yeah the numbers weren’t great last year in college but it seems like most of the solid NFL kickers didn’t have great stats in college. He hit 90.5% of his kicks the year before though. Haush is on his last legs and is the K more likely injured given his age. Haush may have 1 season left but not here. Letting Bass walk means he gets picked up by one of the first teams with a failing or injured kicker. They can’t stash him on the practice squad to prevent this and I doubt they use up a roster spot for an KO specialist. Bass has 10+ years ahead of him if he performs. Haush at this point in his career reminds me of Ryan Lindel back in the day (relatively speaking) a good kicker inside 45 yards but gets shaky once you get close to 50 yards or beyond. That's not the worst kicker to have as some teams have kickers who struggle with all ranges but it is a handicap to not be able to have a kicker with range. BUT Haush is at least a decent fall back option in case Bass just doesn't have it. I would take a kicker who is 90% from inside 50 and sub 50% above 50 instead of a kicker who could kick 55 but is wildly inconsistent.
