There should be a national dialogue in getting back to work

I'm really hoping warmer weather will slow this thing down and a reliable antibody test is developed as you want to restart the economy without restarting the virus.

I have yet to see a plan, though I believe it’s coming and will involve aggressive tracking of contacts if it is done properly. If not, roll a bomb into the economy and healthcare system that makes the current situation look like a sparkler.

Wuhan finally emerges from its long lockdown, but full recovery will take time

The Chinese city of Wuhan emerged Wednesday from its 76-day lockdown, with 11 million residents able to move around the city and the country — provided their government-issued “health code” shines green.

Wuhan staged a grand light show under the theme “Heroic City, Heroic People” to celebrate the reopening of the central Chinese metropolis where the novel coronavirus emerged late last year. But the trauma and isolation of the past two months have taken a huge toll: More than 2,500 Wuhan residents died of covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, and tens of thousands were hospitalized, according to official figures. Now, people must piece their lives and livelihoods back together.

“Even though the epidemic might be ending, for some groups of people the trauma might be just starting,” Du Mingjun, who set up a 24-hour mental health hotline, told a Reuters reporter in Wuhan.

Authorities had been cautious about allowing Wuhan to come out of its quarantine, gradually allowing parts of the city to return to a semblance of normal over the past week or so. The final barrier came down at midnight on Wednesday, when people were allowed to leave Wuhan for the first time since Jan. 23. Cars and trucks were lined up for hours at the city’s 76 tollgates. A Phoenix TV reporter posted a video of vehicles streaming out.

“I’m very excited,” Li Qing, a Wuhan native waiting at a toll gate so she could return to her work in Jiangsu province, told the Sixth Tone website. “The city can’t stay sealed off forever — we need to go to work.”

More than 55,000 people were estimated to be leaving Wuhan by train on Wednesday, with 40 percent going to the southern manufacturing hub of Guangdong. The first flight to leave Wuhan’s Tianhe International Airport since the city lifted the lockdown was a China Eastern plane bound for Sanya, on the resort island of Hainan.

Most of those leaving appeared to be migrant workers trying to return to jobs elsewhere in China. The lockdown began on the eve of the Lunar New Year holiday, often the only time of year that people can visit their hometowns and families.

But the Communist Party secretary for Hubei province, Ying Yong, said that Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, was not out of the woods. “Zero new infection doesn’t mean zero risk in the epidemic,” Ying said Tuesday. “The lifting of the traffic lockdown doesn’t mean a lifting of epidemic control measures; the reopening of the city gate doesn’t mean that we should open the doors to our homes.”

The Hubei government has urged residents not to go outside unless necessary, and if they do go out, to wear masks.

Another socislized industry. Dairy industry is socialism in action

Corporate welfare is okay in limited cases, but the dairy industry definitely shouldn’t be included in these cases. The original purpose of farm subsidies was to stabilize the country’s food supply during famines or deep economic recessions, like what was seen during the Gilded Age. The dairy industry has always invested heavily in lobbyists in order to convince America and its politicians that they provide a “critical” nutrition source (I think they may have even played a prominent role in getting Iowa to be the first primary state?). The problem here is that dairy milk is in no way an essential source of nutrition. You can get calcium and vitamin D from a large variety of natural food sources, as well as fortified ones, supplements, and sunlight in the case of vitamin D. Many Americans are not even lactose tolerant, including most non-Caucasians. Dairy farmers are whining to the government because alternative plant-based milks are hurting their business model, but at the same time they’re completely unwilling to adapt their farm business model to accommodate the natural changes in demand occurring within the food market. I didn’t even touch the animal rights issues with the dairy industry, but that’s another topic for another thread.

But Americans love their milk and politicians know that. It's my understanding that dairy is given price supports because submitting it to the whims of the market would ruin dairy farmers during bust cycles so that no one would go into the business. That's what was happening during the depression. Now, of course, the price supports lead to over production

The "plan" the WH is going to have is a plan to make them look good. The WH will say that the US is open for business and leave the details to the states. This way - if the states go slow....they can say ...."Hey...we opened it up but they slowed it down". This makes the idiots like the regulars here to think everything would be cool if we just did it DT's way....but since you did not do it DT's way...whelp - can't blame him....and if people die....well its the liberal states did not get it right...because liberals...

Same thing with the malaria drug....its the perfect "out" for DT...."Hey...I was pushing the magic cure...if everyone was to use it...the death rate would have been lower" Same thing - the 5th avenues here are already on track that Fauci and Gates are conspirators and its not DT's fault - because he had the answer...

The plan should be stringent and constant testing - if you are clean or had it...you get a bracelet that clears you for action. Track and trace until the threat is gone or their is a vaccine. Prescient...but that is what they did in Contagion ....Pretty simple....blocking and tackiling

Actually it’s up to the doctors and patients via off label prescribing.

But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good narrative

Tell me more about this bracelet, this sounds big brained.

You're understanding the cow farmer during  the Depression ?

Fair to say, the manure part you have grasped.
