I do not think it is surprising, at all.

Oh, I see that is an old piece to inform people about the ties/connections. And Brookings still went on its merry way.

US sanctions pro-China leader of Hong Kong, other officials

The U.S. on Friday imposed sanctions on Hong Kong officials, including the pro-China leader of the government, accusing them of cooperating with Beijing’s effort to undermine autonomy and crack down on freedom in the former British colony.

The Treasury Department announced sanctions on Carrie Lam, the leader of the government in Hong Kong, and 10 other officials. The sanctions were authorized by an executive order that Trump signed recently to levy penalties against China for its efforts to curtail anti-government protesters in Hong Kong.

Fake driver's licenses flooding into US from China, other countries, US says

Nearly 20,000 counterfeit U.S. driver’s licenses were seized at Chicago’s O’Hare airport in the first half of 2020, according to a report.

Counterfeit documents are giving criminals a license to commit a host of offenses, including terrorism, U.S. officials say -- and young adults who are lax with their personal information may be their biggest enablers.

“Some of the major concerns as it relates to fraudulent identity documents is identity theft, worksite enforcement, critical infrastructure protection, fraud linked to immigration-related crimes such as human smuggling and human trafficking, and these documents can be used by those individuals associated with terrorism to minimize scrutiny from travel screening measures,” Thomas Mahn, the Louisville port director, said.

I teach several topics at police academies, one of which is fraudulent document identification.  These Chinese (and Russian) websites advertise fake IDs to get into bars and the like.  You can get two decent quality fake IDs with your actual name and picture on it for $100 or less.  They just need your real information to "verify" your identity (i.e. not law enforcement).

Trouble is the real money isn't in selling you a fake, it's turning around and selling your personal identifying information.  And there's no telling who gets that information, or where the money ultimately ends up.

And all this occurs with the tacit approval of their government.

This is a well written piece in the Orlando Sentinel. Basically points out the to the NBA the lives of Uighers don't matter and they will not even give lip service to stopping the horrible things that happen in China under the NBA name.

That ("China gets the NBA to shut up and dribble") is an awesome title.  Well played.

Explain this video:

Well, Don Winslow, an author of fiction novels, posted a video that used recent clips of President Trump condemning China

and connected them with older clips of Trump and family discussing his clothing lines.

It means absolutely nothing, but I see the local lemmings have swallowed it.

(I mean, the David Letterman show.........really ?)
