Bills have made six acquisitions on defense, only one on offense

Recommended Posts

Offense:

Diggs

(Re-signed Spain)

Defense:

Norman

Addison

Klein

Matakevich

Jefferson

Butler

(Extended Poyer)

Is McBeane always going to prioritize defense first? Going into this, all of the analysis was that the Bills needed to build the offense, but apparently McBeane had other plans. You can talk about the draft all you want, but those returns aren't usually immediate.

That 1 offensive player is a huge get tho. We have our WR1 finally.

Wellllll....the pick up on O probabaly outweighs the collective pick ups on D.  Unless someone is looking at it with an agenda.

A lot of that “defense” is largely ST, and BY FAR the largest and most important acquisition was on offense. We just got started in free agency. Let’s see this play out, then see what happens in the draft. (Spain is not unimportant.)

I assume that they went harder on defense to replace Phillips, Lorax, Johnson and Lawson. McB probably believe that the draft is better suited for upgrading offensive positions this year. Plus, a lot of these defensive players have experience in McDs scheme.... They’ll be seamless fits in an abbreviated off-season.

Willing to bet they go offense in the draft. We (finally) have what shoukd be a solid offense. Every position has been addressed over the last few seasons. Tight end, wide receiver, running back, quarter back, o-line. Obviously we still need some pieces but I think they're in good shape

Should we play WR’s and RB’s on that side of the ball?

right. who did we lose on offense?

I've been banging the drum that McD has prioritized the defense his first 2 seasons at the expense of the offense.  The byproduct was their offense during the first half of 2018 and last year they were mostly below average.   You could have made this point a year ago, but not anymore.

Trading for Diggs combined with their focus on offensive skill types last year in UFA and the 2 third rounders is a major shift.  This is a team that has been questioned about their offensive talent and they responded.  So long as McD and Daboll use these guys appropriately, they've changed their direction.

Because, 1. They prioritized Offense last year in FA and the trade for a true, proven #1 WR is what they would have done in the draft without the NFL resume’ and 2. The Draft this year is loaded with great Offensive talent.

Also, a slight aside, but RB is now the only Offensive position that really needs depth at this point in FA. And none of the signings preclude the Bills from taking any position (except QB) in rounds 2-4.
