This trade is as risky as the trade for Watkins. Am I the only who feels this way?

The Bills have just gave up a boatload of draft picks for a WR.  I admit he is an upgrade for what we currently have, however when a GM named Doug Whaley traded picks for Sammy Watkins, he never lived down that decision. Do you remember why Whaley made the trade? it was to bolster and support a young QB named EJ Manual.  This trade was done for the current young QB Josh Allen.   I hope this works out,  if not, it will be a disaster.  If it doesn't work,  will the fans criticize Beane like they did Whaley?

It's less risky since Diggs is an established WR and Watkins was a rookie.  But every trade is a risk. The important thing is that it doesn't hurt us past this year. If Allen fizzles out, and we have to move in a different direction, we still have our 1, 2, and 3. With Watkins, we lost our 1. That was the real risk.

Completely disagree. This is a fantastic trade and Diggs is worth it at this time with a QB under rookie contract, one of if not the best defense in the league, not many holes to fill in the starting lineup and the weakest AFC East opponents we have seen in years. This is the time to go for it all and this moves says that. Beane is a mastermind.

Sammy Watkins, while an amazing talent in college, did not live up to his draft status. He was an unknown commodity.

Diggs has been doing his thing and is proven on An NFL talent level. We gave up far less to get someone known to do what we need than to take a shot (even if everyone believed he was a sure thing, nothing is for certain until he plays at that level)

Not at all the same. That trade was more risky as it was for a draft pick; an unproven NFL talent. That’s not Diggs. It was a deep draft for WRs. Allen is entering his critical 3rd year, not his second. This move fits the timeline for building a championship contender, and it’s a logical next step. No similarity between these trades at all. Doesn’t involve next year’s first either.

2 firsts used to get Watkins. Only 1 to get Diggs.

Traded for Watkins without a franchise QB in place.
Traded for Diggs with a franchise QB in place (along with many other pieces to the puzzle).

so, gave up less & timing much better.

oh, 2 more things...

Diggs is better

Diggs is proven
