Is Yannick that good where you give up the high picks and sign him to a large contract? I don't know that.

Short answer: Yes.

I think a pretty decent number of people would say he's at least on Ford/Clark's level if not better. It's obviously a very high price to pay though, especially considering we already don't have a 1st round pick.

But if there was ever a draft to move picks for proven players, this is it. Especially with all the potential chaos, or just general discomfort, with the virtual draft.

Diggs is better than any WR available at 22

Ngakoue is better than any DE available at 54

And both of those players are still pretty young (26 and 25, respectively).

We have the cap space, and can easily make more (Murphy, I'm looking at you). And Hughes most likely comes off the books next year too.

While he doesnt hold ALL the cards, he does have some leverage. Teams arent going to send the Jags a bounty of picks if Ngakoue makes it clear he has no intentions of signing long term there. Which teams will want to confirm before completing the trade.

Same thing Clowney did last year. Gave Houston a short list of teams he'd probably sign long term with, and let them trade from there.

I agree.

Which is why I think the Bills don't have that good of a chance of getting Ngakoue, because we don't have a first round pick to trade.

Yeah, but if the Jags need to move him, and the short list of teams are only willing to offer so much, that puts more pressure on the Jags to lower their ask. They wont get a crazy team coming in with a high offer. So might swing in our favor.

I'm still of the thought that I wouldn't want Beane to give up assets for then pay $20,000,000 a year to 248lb DE who averages 9 sacks a year. It just seems like a stupid move.

Yeah, I'm not saying I wouldn't do it...just saying it is a very high price to pay. I could go either way on it but I do agree that he's almost certainly better than what you'd get at 54 or even any pick after #2 really.

That could happen, and I like your suggestion of trading two 2nd rounders for him.

Although the Jaguars will exhaust their search for that elusive first round pick from another team.

Beane is going to have to put that wizard hat on and summon as many powers from Elysium, Nirvana & The Happy Hunting Grounds as he can.

Hard pass on Yannick.  He's not worth top money at that position as he's more of a pass rush specialist who isn't good against the run.  The fact that we'd pry have to give up a 2nd and a 3rd or something like that just to have the rights to sign him to a bloated contract makes him all the less appealing.  Plus, I question his "culture" fit given his whining on social media.  Let's draft and develop a guy while getting the absolute most out of Hughes before he retires.  Save the money to keep the young core in place on both sides of the ball for a long time.

Fair enough on your opinion in your first lines, but wrt the bold...

I'd say the issue in Jacksonville is more Marrone and Coughlin than any individual player. And I do not fault the players for doing anything they can to get out of there. I also dont think he's whining that much, or saying anything crazy or out of line.

Man did Jacksonville ever ruin something special by keeping Marrone around lol

They ***** themselves by hiring Coughlin in the first place. As much talent as they had one defense and the decent pieces they had on offense they were making it miserable to be there. BUT their mos tgalring mistake was that 20 million dollar a year Bortles extension really killed their team roster wise in 2018. They could have signed or traded for a subpar starting QB at a much cheaper price point and invested on the offense or added another piece to their defense instead of dropping 20 million on Bortles in 2018 and 15.5 million in dead cap on him in 2019. Both years those bad contracts really tanked their roster.

But beyond the Bortles extension the Jags just ***** themselves over in a lot of different ways. 25% of all NFLPA grievances were against the Jags in 2019. Players were advised to not sign there in 2019 because of how bad the atmosphere was. Combine that with a bad (so far) 2018 draft class and some blunders on the roster they killed any chances they had of following up on that 2017 season with a winning season. I think keeping Marrone around is another bad mistake. Not only is he not a good coach but they need a complete full rebuild.

The Jags got rid of Campbell (not as bad a move as many thought big contract older player and declining production) and Foles big contracts while getting an absolute haul for Ramsey. The Jags even had a really good 2019 draft class. So it isn't like with a good fresh new coach they couldn't use the Ramsey picks and the 2021 cap space to rebuild quick. But they are instead stuck with Marrone who will likely be fired after a year and wasting their draft picks on players for his system and taste. It is maddening to watch their team make poor decisions over and over again.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think we’re in good position to give him a long term contract paying him 20 mill a year AND give up a 2nd rd player making a mill a year for 4 years.  I’m all about going all in for the next 2 years, but I’m hesitant to pay him huge money long term.

Unless Jax decides to remove the tag and let him text FA, I’m not interested. Even then I wonder what the Bills would save from cutting Murphy now?

I think he’s been doing a lot of texting already

True.  I'm just of the belief that player's should avoid social media when it comes to discussing contracts.  It's not a good look.  It gives teams that value fitting into a "culture" like the Bills pause when thinking of breaking the bank for you.

I dont see Beane giving up the 54th pick after trading for Diggs.  Maybe Im wrong.  If they think they have a chance at winning it all you do it.  If he can get a strip sack on Mahomes or chase down Watson on the egde it makes sense.  Long term answer replacing Hughes, short term gives Buffalo a very good pass rush.
