They should absolutely look to move on from Stafford.  If you don't have a top 5 QB (which he never was, and never will be), or a young QB on a rookie deal, then you are in the "messy middle" and destined to live in a constant state of purgatory.  You'll never be good enough to reach a conference final, and you probably won't ever be bad enough to get a top draft pick.

Stafford isn't a bad QB, or a bad guy, but in this day and age, you can't cling to a guy just because you see him as "good" or "good enough"

The problem becomes the contracts.  He is being paid like a top QB but he's not.  His team is cash strapped bc of it, and he can't carry the team....

I don’t buy it, tenure dictates that Patricia needs to start winning games or he is toast.

They have the QB, WR and RB. Look for them to try and bolster that D and become competitive.

I think the question they have to ask themselves is how much longer does Stafford want to play? The guy is still pretty young at 31-32 (same age as Russell Wilson), but has played a long time and has been injured a bunch. He’s definitely a likely candidate to hang it up early a la Luck and Romo.

If you are Detroit rather than wait for Stafford to leave you at the altar in a few years do you jump at the opportunity to draft a guy who can hold the fort for the next ten-fifteen years?

Keep in mind the regime in Detroit (Quinn and Patricia) received a stay of execution from the owner. They badly need to win games this season in order to keep their jobs so doubt they trade Stafford.
