Jests tried to reassign Rick Dennison to be a scout so that he would quit & they don't have to pay him

“It’s legal, but it’s B.S.,” one general manager said. “It’s a Jets move.”

“It’s the weasel factor,” a league source said. “Nobody wants to work for a weasel organization.”

“They owe him the money,” one league source said. “Don’t think other coaches aren’t watching stuff like this. They need to resolve it. They need to stop being the Jets.”

Man the Jest are a train wreck.  Not sure why anyone would work or play there.  The exceptions would be for them to ridiculously overpay for someone like they did CJ Mosley or give someone a job at a much higher level than they warrant, like they did with Adam Gase.

When Ralph fired Wade Phillips and tried not to pay him, that sullied the Bills' reputation for years, or decades.  The NFL is the Never-Forget League.

The Pegulas are a much classier combo than Ralph (and they don't employ Lippman, hurray!) and the success of McBeane has transformed the Bill's reputation.

The Jets are going to struggle to get competent coaches for years to come.  Serves them right, too.

Now, let me get this straight.  Adam Gase wants to get rid of Rick Dennison because he thinks Dennison is incompetent?

It's probably not Gase behind this move.  It would be the GM or the owner, since Gase has been around the NFL long enough to know how bad a move this is.

I hope if  it’s true, the rest of the league knows how they treat people, and nobody worth their salt would ever take a job with them.

(Sucks for him, but I can’t change that. Keep taking the money to just piss them off, if you can!)

I’d probably clean toilets for what he’s making!

The hard part about scouting is it may wreck his family life, and that is VERY cruel and uncool.

Who is Lippman?

How Ralph Like. Maybe this should be a poll worst Owner Ralph Bills, Terry Sabres and Johnson's & Gases Jests

Some quotes:

"Although the Jets technically followed the letter of Dennison’s contract that included a reassignment provision, teams typically don’t attempt to force a coach to quit by telling him they’ll move him to a scouting position that they don’t actually want him to take to save money.

“It’s legal, but it’s B.S.,” one general manager said. “It’s a Jets move.”

"Why does this matter?

Coveted coaches with options will think twice about the wisdom of choosing to work for an organization engaged in a year-long battle to wiggle out of an agreement that supposedly was made in good faith with a coach.

“They owe him the money,” one league source said. “Don’t think other coaches aren’t watching stuff like this. They need to resolve it. They need to stop being the Jets.”

Ten of the 11 GMs, NFL executives and agents contacted for this story believed that the Jets employed underhanded measures to avoid paying Dennison. One source subscribed to the caveat emptor line of thinking: Buyer beware when dealing with the Jets, whose culture is shaped by too many non-football voices."

Bit of a nit correction: it's past tense, "tried".  Dennison spent 2019 as an assistant with the Vikes - after Gase came in and the Jets pulled this crap in the 2019 off season.
