I’d say give them 3 bye weeks and do 18 regular season games. Give the league more weeks to make money but give the players more rest so they can’t complain

You're adding 4 weeks to the season.  Are they going to start the regular season in early August?  Maybe finish the regular season at this date and play the SB in early March?  I don't see a season expansion happening, especially not a significant one.

The fact that Christian Wade played the way he did in the preseason, and still never saw the field in the regular season, proves the preseason is a complete waste of time when it comes to evaluating talent.

Wade had never played  football.....yes, he seems to be able to run...but a year to learn the game on the sidelines was rright for him.  Any notion he should have been on the field this year if way off base imho.

17 seems to be a weird number.
Shorten preseason to two games, make the schedule 18 games. Work in 2 bye weeks maybe for players, or allow more players active on game days. I’m no schedule pro but adding one game doesn’t seem impressive

I actually like 17 games, and think it's the number of games the owners have wanted all along.  It gives the NFL the ability to really expand their international and neutral game sites, with every team having to play in 1 per yr.  It also makes it a much fairer system since no team has to lose a home game and every team has to play one.  Throw in an additional bye week, which comes before or after the international game and you can sell player safety, while also adding another week of revenue.  17, an odd number, also ensures a winning or losing season, no .500 seasons which I like.

I do believe the playoffs need to be expanded to 14 teams if a 17 game regular season does pass.  You dont want there to be too many meaningless games late in the season and adding another wildcard team in each conference will help that.  Only the #1 seed gets a bye, so wildcard weekend would be 3 games on both Saturday and Sunday:

#7 @ #2

#6 @ #3

#5 @ #4

Games at 1PM, 4:45PM & 8:30PM

Talk about a fun filled weekend (and a huge weekend for all of the sportsbooks)

Im not saying christian wade should have played regular season football. Im saying that he is a prime example at how dumb preseason football is.

No more games, period. It is only a blatant money grab and does nothing for the game. Player safety issues at fore front for the past decade and the NFL continues wants to expand the schedule? Good old Billionaire greed, pure and simple. Sickening.......

Yes, it's hard to believe that business owners would seek to increase the income from their investment.   It's a world gone mad I tell ya!

Next thing you know, players, staff, stadium workers, traffic cops, parking lot attendants, etc., will all be expecting an annual pay increase too.

No it proves you do not understand agreement for international players to play.

Afraid of this as even 16 games can seem like too many.  Just start a week earlier after three preseason games and make the NFL 18 weeks and each team two bye weeks.  Coordinate one of the bye weeks with a TNF game the following week.  You still get the extra money from the tv contracts.  Plus, adding a game every year will inflate this generations stats like they did when they increased it from 14 to 16 weeks.

players don't want 17 games...doubtful they agree to 18
