Better late than never. 2020 is here and so is the period in time where movies release their less than desirable fare. Once known as the Garbage Season of movies, the month of January & February have been changing that feeling as box office receipts have gotten a lot better than in year's past. Here's what we have to look backwards to.

Robert Downey Jr. is "Doolittle". A vivid re-imagining of the classic tale of the man who could talk to animals. Also starring Antonio Banderas, Jim Broadbent, Michael Sheen, Tom Holland, Ralph Fiennes & Emma Thompson.

Will Smith & Martin Lawrence star in "Bad Boys For Life". Set around a modern, highly specialized police unit that collides with the old-school Bad Boys when a new threat emerges in Miami.

Matthew McConaughey stars in "The Gentlemen". Follows American expat Mickey Pearson who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him. Also starring Hugh Grant, Kate Beckinsale & Colin Farrell.

In "The Last Full Measure", The true story of Vietnam War hero William H. Pitsenbarger, a U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen (also known as a PJ) medic who personally saved over sixty men. Starring Jeremy Irvine, William Hurt, Ed Harris, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Peter Fonda & Christopher Plummer.

In "Like A Boss", Two hard-charging best friends build a juggernaut company and find their relationship tested when they are made a big buyout offer. Starring Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne & Salma Hayek.

Blake Lively stars in "The Rhythm Section". Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash. When Stephanie discovers that the crash was not an accident, she enters a dark, complex world to seek revenge on those responsible and find her own redemption. Also starring Jude Law & Sterling K. Brown.

"Just Mercy", follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson and his history-making battle for justice. Starring Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson, Jamie Foxx & Tim Blake Nelson.

In "The Grudge", A single mother and young detective, Muldoon, discovers that a suburban house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death. Starring Andrea Riseborough, Demian Bichir, John Cho, Lin Shaye & Jacki Weaver.

In "The Turning", Set in a mysterious estate where newly appointed nanny Kate is charged with the care of two disturbed orphans, Flora and Miles. Starring Mackenzie Davis, Finn Wolfhard, Brooklyn Prince & Joely Richardson.

In "Underwater", A crew of underwater researchers who must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. Starring T.J. Miller, Kristen Stewart & Vincent Cassel.

Finally in "Gretel & Hansel", The story that you all know hides a dark secret. Starring Sophia Lillis, Alice Krige & Ian Kenny.

Thanks MV.  I was just thinking it had been a while since I’d seen your outstanding monthly  movie thread.

Sadly, I’m still going through the list of 2019 movies I’ve yet to see.

Thanks, and I understand if your still on 2019. This is why the movies of January are mostly ones you can skip.

Bad Boys for Life shows you how terrible Michael Bay is as a director.  BBFL is probably the best all-around film in the trilogy of these movies, likely because he wasn't directing it.

The Rhythm Section would have been an interesting film if it were made several years ago.  However, it's really just a female version of American Assassin, and all the cliffhangers in the movie were done before in Bourne movies.

Which is why I await the day when Transformers will be re-made by someone who will approach it the right way.
