I think the Gaine point is a huge one.  He knows Clowney and his actual demeanor not just his trying to sign a lucrative deal demeanor.  The other point is the new facilities.  For someone who often has lingering injuries that would imo be a huge selling point.

I like Clowney but I am a little weary of how much he will cost.  I'm in full on trust the process mode though.  If they pay him I will be happy, if they decide he isn't worth the price tag I will be happy.  Such a strange offseason going in feeling this way...

My big concern with Clowney is the constant injuries. It’s the reason why I don’t want them to sign AJ Green. Now, if those injuries fade because we have better medical staff and facilities I’d be happy to see that level of talent on the team. It’s something we won’t have a grasp on unless he’s signed. I will say that Beane has taken shots on injury prone players (Murphy, Kroft) and most haven’t worked out. Although Murphy stayed healthy this year.

He is on Beanes radar but not right up front, i think he wants way to much cash but Beane is a master so far at putting out contracts & getting players that benefit the Bills you never know he may be able to get someone like Clowney but given his injury history is he worth top cash in this league ?

When he is healthy he is a force but more so than not he has been hurt so will Clowney him self take that into consideration when it comes to his contract ?

Looking at spotrac they have Clowney expected market value at 20 million. They have Jordan Phillips at 6.1 and Shaq at 7.6.  Is Clowney worth those 2 and another solid piece?  I think both of those numbers are low for Phillips and Shaq but still something to think about...

Chris Jones is projected at 19.2 and is better at rushing the passer imo.

Irrespective of them ignoring that hit on Wentz, he’s one of - if not the most -penalized player in the league. I know he has the most in the league last year

That should naturally take the pressure away from Hughes in that regards - unless they try to 1 up each other

Say more.  Why?

My wife is a big 49ers fan so we watch the games. He is a consistent player in the run game. He is strong and keeps containment. He showed this season he can get to the QB with 10 sacks. Can this be repeated? I think it can with good players around him.

Clowney or another top pass rusher is worth more than combined 90, 93 and 97. The D will be unbeatable because getting to the QB consistently with the front 4 will free up Frazier and McD to dictate the matchups.

Yup very valid concern.  I know Clowney is a good player but to me, to get that giant contract you have to have both ability and availability.  I don't know that he checks that second box enough to make me comfortable to give him the big bucks.  If Beane decides to though I will get it especially with the Gaine connection and the facilities.  Hopefully the Bills can become like the early 2000s Suns where injury prone players go and resurrect their career due to the excellent staff/facilities.

Pending unrestricted free agent Jadeveon Clowney wants to play for contender

GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- Jadeveon Clowney said his priority in free agency will be to play for a contender.

"I just want to win," the defensive end said after the Seattle Seahawks' season came to an end with a 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. "I'm trying to get to the Super Bowl by any means. That's what I'm looking for: Who's going to get me there? I ain't looking to get on no sorry team for no money. That ain't going to fly. I ain't gonna put my body through all of that just to lose no 16 games, go home with my check. I'd hate that, so that ain't what I'm doing. So if I can't win no Super Bowl, I ain't going to no team that can't win."

Clowney, who turns 27 next month, headlines the list of Seahawks scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March and will be one of the top available pass-rushers on the market. His first order of offseason business will be to determine if he'll have surgery on the core-muscle injury that has plagued him since Week 10. He said he probably will, though Clowney decided to put off surgery after a November visit to Dr. William Meyers, a core-muscle specialist in Philadelphia.

Wow he speaks like a total dumbass

Clowney is a dirty player, and practically just ***** over his whole team.

Armstead has been solid the last two years and his character seems like a much better fit for what is being built here.

He's a bull who can not only rush the passer, but has become a solid run stopper as well.   He's a 3 down player with a great attitude.

Good player. Price would also be very high (with less of a track record). 9ners considering outright tag. Around 18Mm if they do that.

Apparently process guys are mediocre players who don’t want to get paid.... What exactly did this guy do or say that doesn’t make him a “process” guy?

I will only play for a contender says it all.

Why wouldn't he say that he would love to re-sign  with Seattle?

He better be prepared to take less money as most of the top teams don't have much cap room.

I also think he is a dirty player and a cheap shot artist.

That hit on Wentz should have brought a huge fine it was much more dangerous than Cody Fords  so call Crack Back Block :(

They didn't even get a 15yd penalty player safety my azz :(

He’s a dirty player based on one play? He wants to play for a contender.... big ***** deal. Why does that make him a “non process” guy?

Maybe he would love to play for Seattle again. There was absolutely nothing wrong with his comments.(unless you are referring to his English....which is terrible)

We shall see won't we

I disagree.  I think this team has really great solid core and a ton of depth.  They need PLAYMAKERS.  Yes the offense needs a WR, yes another RB is needed and yes the OL still needs some help.  However, I don't believe I was the only one watching Clowney push Rodgers all over the field yesterday.  Maybe he isn't the guy for this team but that talent level is what is needed.  Give me 2 maybe 3 playmakers and a solid draft class and I'll be super happy.

I 100% agree.  This FA needs to be about getting quality playmakers.  We have a ton of above-average guys, we need a few elite guys beyond Tre.

That's the thing though, Clowney isn't a top flight pass rusher.  He is a disruptor for sure but as for sacking the QB he has 32 over 75 games or just under a half sack a game.  Jordan Phillips put up more sacks this year than Clowney ever has, Shaq had more sack than him this year.  I don't want it to seem like I don't think Clowney is a very good player but he is about to get a top of the market contract and I don't know that he is worth that.

I think Kroft and Murhpy were both necessary risks at the time given the current state of TE and DL when they were signed.  I expect (hope) Kroft is gone this year and we see Hooper/Knox at TE.

Clowney's injuries do worry me because we have a good DL now.  We need a guy to make it elite.  If he's not out there, he can't help.   I'll trust our medical people.  I really won't freak out if we do or don't get him because I trust Bean with this.
