Pending unrestricted free agent Jadeveon Clowney wants to play for contender

You keep the deal at 2 years. 2 years fully guaranteed.

That would still keep money for the others, correct.

Problem is, at 26 he certainly would be looking for a minimum 4 year contract to put him at his final contract at 30/31 years old.  He's going to want more than $30 over the life of that contract.  2 year deal is more of a "prove it" contract.

Pending unrestricted free agent Jadeveon Clowney wants to play for contender

GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- Jadeveon Clowney said his priority in free agency will be to play for a contender.

"I just want to win," the defensive end said after the Seattle Seahawks' season came to an end with a 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. "I'm trying to get to the Super Bowl by any means. That's what I'm looking for: Who's going to get me there? I ain't looking to get on no sorry team for no money. That ain't going to fly. I ain't gonna put my body through all of that just to lose no 16 games, go home with my check. I'd hate that, so that ain't what I'm doing. So if I can't win no Super Bowl, I ain't going to no team that can't win."

Clowney, who turns 27 next month, headlines the list of Seahawks scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March and will be one of the top available pass-rushers on the market. His first order of offseason business will be to determine if he'll have surgery on the core-muscle injury that has plagued him since Week 10. He said he probably will, though Clowney decided to put off surgery after a November visit to Dr. William Meyers, a core-muscle specialist in Philadelphia.

...

The septed negative...rarely seen and almost impossible to pull off when not intoxicated. Well done Mr. Clowney.

Clowney showed me something playing injured. He also clearly plays with a mean streak as you can see some of the hits/altercations he's been in.

I want guys like that on my team, and he has alot of talent as well.

Bills should definitely be looking at him

It wouldn't be a prove it price. 2 years $50 million fully guaranteed. Gives him another big deal after this is up.

Aaron Donald basically received a 2 year $50 million fully guaranteed contract as well. I don't see any team topping this for Clowney. You never know.

I think Clowney would consider it.

I'd be looking for players that say "How can I help get the team there" as opposed to "Who gonna get me there".

That's the type of attitude that just wouldn't do well with the players we have that believe in the 1/11. Clowney can be a Clown elsewhere.

This. Could not have said this better myself.

Don't see the fascination with this guy. I don't find him to be an elite player like Donald or Mack yet hype always surrounds him. Doesn't seem to be a process guy and seems to be all about himself.

He's a beast. Receives a lot of attention from offenses. You can coach what he has. He would be fantastic fit for us scheme wise.

Donald singed a 6 year $135 million contract in 2018.

Yeah, Clowney may take a short contract with big dollars.  I personally don't believe he fits in with the Bills culture.  Been a "me" guy his whole career and his statement reeks of "me first".

He plays hard, plays hurt and wants to win. Disagree that the 3 sacks are a true representation of his impact.

He's missed games in 5 out of 6 seasons.   Averages 6  sacks a year and is going on 27 years old.   Again, I think he is an exceptional edge setter.  But no way in hell am I paying anywhere near 20 million dollars a season for a guy who isn't in the top five in the league is sacks.     He is a good player.   But he isn't the type of game changer that guys like Khalil Mack, Von Miller, and Chandler Jones are.    He isnt even the best pass rusher in his own free agency class.

Rams can cut Donald after next year and save a lot of cap, they won't but can. NFL contracts are only worth what you are fully guaranteed at signing.

I would guess he doesn't view us as that kind of team, but guess we'll see this offseason.

The Bills were one pass rusher away from going to AFC Championship, and possibly SB this year.

Maybe a flukey run, sure. I think any of this year’s playoff teams are technically capable of a fluke run. I don’t think our offense is near good enough yet to be a serious contender.

But more importantly, I don’t think players from other teams view us as a contender regardless of whether you think we are or aren’t.
