Pending unrestricted free agent Jadeveon Clowney wants to play for contender

GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- Jadeveon Clowney said his priority in free agency will be to play for a contender.

"I just want to win," the defensive end said after the Seattle Seahawks' season came to an end with a 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. "I'm trying to get to the Super Bowl by any means. That's what I'm looking for: Who's going to get me there? I ain't looking to get on no sorry team for no money. That ain't going to fly. I ain't gonna put my body through all of that just to lose no 16 games, go home with my check. I'd hate that, so that ain't what I'm doing. So if I can't win no Super Bowl, I ain't going to no team that can't win."

Clowney, who turns 27 next month, headlines the list of Seahawks scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March and will be one of the top available pass-rushers on the market. His first order of offseason business will be to determine if he'll have surgery on the core-muscle injury that has plagued him since Week 10. He said he probably will, though Clowney decided to put off surgery after a November visit to Dr. William Meyers, a core-muscle specialist in Philadelphia.

There’s 7 “I”’s in his explanation. No thanks. Over-hyped player. He had one big hit in college and is not a difference maker...nor is he a Beane type.

He'll be looking for $15 million or more per season.  Top guys get $20 million per year - Ware and Frank Clark.

Not interested in busting our salary cap for him.  Plenty of guys looking at large contracts over the next few years - White, Allen, Milano, Dawkins.  With our defense, we could use a stellar DE, but are good enough without him as a unit.  Would rather throw money at Jordan Philips.

Lots of double and even a rare triple negatives too. That takes planning.

I actually think we would be on the list of teams. And, he is a darn good football player who would fit quite nicely with the Bills. He's a beast of a disruptor!

He is a good edge setter, just dont think he is an elite pass rusher.    He had three sacks this year, three!   He isnt a game wrecker by any means.

You keep the deal at 2 years. 2 years fully guaranteed.

I would imagine his initial thought for playing for Buffalo would be a negative.    But I think once he came in to visit and really learned about what Buffalo was building, the camaraderie/brotherhood, the belief in the organization from all the players and personnel and Beane being a master salesman his tune would change for the right price.

Hes a disruptive force and would be a great addition.

He plays hard, plays hurt and wants to win. Disagree that the 3 sacks are a true representation of his impact.

I disagree.  I think this team has really great solid core and a ton of depth.  They need PLAYMAKERS.  Yes the offense needs a WR, yes another RB is needed and yes the OL still needs some help.  However, I don't believe I was the only one watching Clowney push Rodgers all over the field yesterday.  Maybe he isn't the guy for this team but that talent level is what is needed.  Give me 2 maybe 3 playmakers and a solid draft class and I'll be super happy.
