Bills are Hiring a “Mental Performance Consultant” (aka Sports Psychologist)

I posted this elsewhere, but I used to play in a tennis league with a sports psychologist. Nice guy, but he could be counted on for some double faults late in a set in a tight situation. I’m sure the Bills can afford better.

I think that Simon Baker would be phenomenal...

Not to question your credentials...but...do you really think that someone with your user name should be the Bills' 'Mental Performance Consultant'? Just sayin'... ?

It's a good idea... but I'm sure they had one already. And seriously, this team has been mentally tough. Great chemistry and team bonds. Even the locker room interviews you could just sense they are simply winners, on a high level. Of course any and all edge are welcome. But it's not been a weakness IMO

This is great news.  I commented several times this season it seems Josh Allen has a serious mental nerves/jittery problem.  I think sometimes he just totally psyches himself out to the point of it debilitating his play.  Hopefully someone highly trained in this field can get him to fix the issue.

Interesting,  I don't see that.  I see an alpha guy who has great physical gifts and, because of that combination, believes he can always make something happen. I don't think nerves are a major issue with him; I think discernment is his biggest issue.

I’ve been suggesting this all season - Allen gets too amped up for big games and starts the game all jittery, he glitches.  Houston was the first time I saw it later in the game (he usually settles down once he gets into the game flow).  Beane sort of confirmed the issue during the postgame PC.  No promise that this fixes the issue but it can’t hurt to try.

I am typically a pretty positive poster, but...

The Seattle Mariners tried this. It ended with a lawsuit. I think it is a terrible idea. You are bringing non-locker room culture people into a locker room and it spells disaster in my opinion. We are a forward thinking organization in some ways, but with the Mariners, their doctor of performance starting undermining what the trainers and coaches were doing and then sued the team for discrimination. It is a very strange story.

Not saying this is going to happen here, but bringing "specialists" from the free world into the old boys club doesn't always work out.

I see the guy you see who is massively frustrated that his receivers don’t make catches at the most important moments in games, and is seriously pissed of, but bites his tongue, and keeps it to himself. That’s why the red face in the wild card game, Just sayin...

Works pretty well at Ohio state. I don’t think the above issue is as much a result of having a mental health professional available, as it is them not being aligned with the organization on player treatment.
