Regardless of what’s on the tape the Pats are already guilty. They broke the rules. It’s very ticky tacky if the video is all legit and the story etc etc but they’re guilty all the same. You don’t go through spy gate then deflate gate and NOT TELL THE WORLD you are videoing something in the press box unrelated to your next opponent Cincinnati. They are considered possibly the top organization is all of sports for the last 20 years you can’t make a silly mistake like that. That alone should be enough to hit the team hard with a penalty. This is a non issue for EVERYONE if they communicate properly. People are overreacting as usual, and lots on here as well because they don’t bother to read or look at anything but a headline and straight to comment something stupid like the NFL will cover for them. Regardless of what happens though knowingly or not they are guilty of a rule violation. The extent of the punishment is the only thing to debate and it’s pointless to debate until the tape is released or the league hands down the penalty. If they lose this week... And the Bills win. We're palying them for the Division title in 2 weeks. Seems like beating that team at the bittom of the league is pretty important. The more important question is... Why would a team with the greatest coach and QB of all time, with the best defense in the league, need to doing anything like this? Only rational answer.. The Patriots during their Superbowl years have constantly bent the rules, by using loopholes in the rulebook, in which rules have to be changed in the offseason. Also, I like how visiting teams headsets/electronics mysteriously stop working at Gillette stadium during games. Goodell and the NFL need to "man up" and punish the Patriots hard on this one...no fines, no draft picks taken away...make Kraft sell the team (between getting arrested for soliciting sex at a massage parlor and his production company illegally filming the Bengals), Belichek suspended for life and the Patriots banned from the postseason this year. I agree - the question is is the penalty a Kraft-centered fine, perhaps with a loss of a draft pick, or is Belichick done in the NFL, or somewhere in between? Everyone is assuming the latter has to be the right case before we know anything more, while I'd just like to wait and see. Full disclosure - if this is definitely illegal signal taping, then I don't believe Belichick should be allowed to coach in the NFL ever again. But I'd only give this a 10% chance of being the case. My point is, last night, when we knew just as much as we know now, everyone was happy with a "let's see what the tapes say." Now we still don't know anything more, but people are rabid and seeing red that the NFL is inclined to not think this is a big deal upon investigating the tapes. This change is not reflective of cool, rational thinking. People have already decided correctly or incorrectly the nature of this thing before we know anything more. I wouldn't put money on it not being nefarious - but I don't know that it is, and since Cincy has a copy of the tapes and the owners are in general furious about this stuff, I'm not inclined to believe in some massive coverup. Terry knows that systematic cheating would hurt his own team and bottom line, 2nd in the East as we are. According to ESPN.com, the cameraman who took the video for the Patriots asked NFL security if he could delete the footage and have the whole situation be forgotten, but instead, the league ended up confiscating the video.
