Yo, It was a hard fought battle and despite how ugly at times it may have looked Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills kept on fighting to the bitter end and one play short of sending it into OT.  I think both of todays New Era QB's rely heavily on their wheels to elude defenders and make plays.  The ankle injury early on took away a big part of Josh Allens game in my humble opinion. Allen is still one tough cookie in my book. Growing pains Yo, growing pains.

The Bills D on the other hand took away a big part of Lamar Jacksons game,

and it was impressive...

Except for the play where he didn't.  Beasley is credited with 4 receptions on 7 targets.  The other 3 weren't all bad throws.

I have to go look when the all-22 comes out how many were makeable throws but

Dawson Knox 1 reception, 4 targets 25%

John Brown 3 of 8 37.5%

Cole Beasley 4 of 7 57%

Now some of those throws will have been throw-aways that are chalked up to them as the nearest receiver, but still.

Them ain't good numbers.

And then there's

Tyler Kroft 0 of 1

Robert Foster 0 of 4

I’m going to guess that most to Beasley were bad throws that were not caught.  And one is the play that drew PI.  So he was 4 of 6.

Knox was dropping easy passes.  He needs to wear receiving gloves, esp.  in cold weather.

except he dropped JA’s best throw all day— would have been a game changer too. The receivers need to make big plays and tough catches once in a while.

what one was that?

Upthread @SDS posted a screen capture where he had Beasley circled and labeled "TD", but from the Nextgen simulation above, it looks as though at the point where Allen threw, Beasley had not yet started his break.  There's a DB and an LB pushing the L side of the line back towards Allen.  There is a pocket he could step up into, but perhaps he felt he couldn't count on time to let the play develop another second or two.

At the point where Allen threw, was Beasley looking for the Ball yet still too covered?    There seems to be a Ravens DL and an LB almost in line between Allen and Beasley.  Did Allen reject that route because he was afraid that would be tipped?  Beasley may not have had separation yet.

I think Josh made the right decision to throw to Brown.  It's 4th down; if Beasley makes the catch but gets stuffed short of the 1st down the game is over.  And he got the ball there.

If the game is on the line he’s going to John Brown

week 1 against the jets

same against Cleveland

same today

He’s reading the defense presnap seeing man and staring down John Brown post snap. That’s a problem

As someone already posted, then you run Jet Sweeps, slip screens, bubble screens, Counter Treys, and make them pay for blitzing. If Dabol is the next great offensive mind, he should figure out how to do this.  Bills Offense today was offensive.

100% correct. Brown was always the read and Allen identified the defense and made the right throw. Beasley is likely 2nd option vs cover0 here on 4th and 8.

Take the throw to win, your best WR vs their best DB...the play didn’t get made by the wideout. That’s football.

It really isn’t though.

I'd love to defense the Bills' offense.  You know for sure they'll come out and run two plays, them have to pass.  Then they'll do the same thing again, and again.  Today's first quarter was a lose, lose proposition; predictable and made worse by attempts to throw bombs on a windy day instead of developing a rhythm and keeping the defense off balance.  The Bills early offensive going in game after game, would truly be a treat for a defensive coordinator to deal with.

If Beasley isn’t the first read against a cover 0 that’s a problem.  Beasley is averaging 3.2 ish yards of separation

Brown is 2.4

Brown is running the deeper routes with a lower probability of catch. Beasley is usually within 10 yards of the LOS

If we aren’t drawing up plays to get Beasley the ball on blitz beaters or he isn’t the primary read shame on the coaching staff.

No one asked Allen about the ankle injury or asked McDermott about it in the pressers.

The whole reason WR1s get the stats they do is because the teams consistently expect them to win man matchups and throw that way. Any team drools at the thought of this situation happening: game winning play late game, man defense, no safety help, single coverage on your man.. Julio, JuJu, AJ, Thomas, Hill, etc... you need to have the luxury to assume your WR1 runs that route well enough to beat his man. QB's at every level are taught to love that read against that look.

Why so you can see what else breaks after he takes a beating like Allen did today?

It's painfully obvious what we need on offense and it's NOT a new QB.  In fact QB is the least of our offensive problems.  Just watch a couple of NFL games and see what real offensive play makers do.

So Allen was dropping all those passes?  And it wasn't Allen who didn't throw the yellow flag on an obvious PI.

Im a big Allen guy,  but he was bad today.  It’s ok to admit that.

He’s made a ton of progress and has really played well against a few above average defenses (Dallas/Denver) of late.

What he needs to improve upon is his performance against elite defenses and for the love of all that’s holy, figure out the deep ball...  He’s a young QB, struggling is ok, but he’s been a dumpster fire against the two elite defenses we’ve seen - Baltimore and New England.

Of course, he’s not alone. The entire offense has failed against those two teams, which leads to a larger point of us needing to upgrade at WR, RB and probably TE this offseason.  Brown, Beasley, Knox and Singletary is a good start but obviously not the finished product, and by design.. we all knew this needed another offseason to complete.

The OL was uncharacteristically bad, but most OL’s will look bad when your QB is struggling against zero blitzes all game.

Besides a few mistakes on each side of the ball Buffalo isnt inferior of a football team.  Close tough loss.  I think if they meet up in January Buffalo has a good shot at beating them.  Bill's D is for real.  Allen, in a poor offensive showing, did not go nuclear with hero ball and bad Ints.  The Bill's can and should win the remaining games.  Finish 12-4 with a shot at the division crown.  Last play of the game, Brown is the teams best Wr.  He ran a poor/sloppy route.  He runs that better 8 out of 10 times.  8 out of 10 times that's a TD.

Why did he run a bad route?   Fourth down and game on the line, why would he not do his best?  This cannot happen.
