The Democrats Destroyed Their Own Argument for More Impeachment Witnesses and Evidence

by Matt Margolis

Original Article

Last year, Democrats rushed through the impeachment hearings because they claimed the evidence was overwhelming and impeachment had to be done immediately.

Today, they’re bellyaching about the need for more witnesses and evidence in order for there to be a fair trial.

This is, of course, after the Democrats didn’t allow the president any of his own witnesses during the House impeachment inquiry, and chose not to subpoena more witnesses in favor of getting the vote to impeach over with, so, as Nancy Pelosi has said, President Trump would be “impeached for life.”

Is there really even a defense being put forth for what Trump did? All I hear is complaining, not fair this, witch hunt that, but no facts, serious arguments or anything. Even if Biden was signing checks to his son--or whatever the brown tongues are saying--that would in no way justify Trump withholding aid Congress had appropriated.

No defense

Hillary Clinton weighs in, criticizes Republican senators

Hillary Clinton weighed in on the impeachment trial on Wednesday, criticizing Senate Republicans for voting against Democratic motions to allow witnesses and documents.

“Last week, every senator swore to ‘do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws’ in the president’s impeachment trial,” tweeted Clinton, was was defeated by Trump in the 2016 election. “Last night, Republican senators cast vote after vote to block evidence and testimony. The American people deserve a real trial, not a cover-up.”

Under the rules that were adopted, senators will decide later in the trial to hear from witnesses and subpoena documents.

Day two of the Senate impeachment trial will begin early this afternoon, but yesterday’s events made something clear to GOP Rep. Steve Scalise:

Barely two weeks after Donald Trump took office, Eric Ciaramella – the CIA analyst whose name was recently linked in a tweet by the president and mentioned by lawmakers as the anonymous “whistleblower" who touched off Trump's impeachment – was overheard in the White House discussing with another staffer how to remove the newly elected president from office, according to former colleagues.
