Now here they are, JA and JK, giving each other little bro slaps on the leg or shoulder, and Kelly saying "Oh, you're listening now...you're listening to your Uncle Jim!" I have never heard anything like that before from Kelly. I'm not sure what you call that as a personality trait. I'm not sure "charisma" or "the IT factor" is exactly the right word for it. I believe after all these years that we finally have our Franchise Quarterback of the futurel. As long as he keeps getting better and improving, the sky is the limit for this kid. I would love to see him become the next Brayd for the Bills. He has allot of talent and is well gifted. Quote Our prayers go out to this young man. Hope his dreams really do come true. billsfan1959 Posted November 22, 2019 Share Posted November 22, 2019 Great interview. IMO, Allen (like Kelly was) is better in an uptempo offense. He seems to play more instinctively, gets into a better rhythm, and I think he has the mind for it. All year long, he has been pretty successful when operating out of the no huddle and against Miami, they ran it more extensively - and pretty successfully. Kroft would be K Gun but I don't think it should be stolen straight up. Hunter Kelly would be 23 years old this January. Josh Allen was 23 years old last May. Allen is certainly the right age to be "son-like" to Kelly. I had that thought myself, that Jim must have at this point some longing to 'pass the torch' and while we don't know yet if Josh will be "the Man" in terms of QB skills, in terms of character, intelligence, and sheer physical abilities JA checks the boxes. 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Then later the interviewer told Brett that when Allen was born, he was already a 3x all-pro, how does that make you feel? Favre drawled "well, maybe he should call me sir" I suspect that the culture Allen grew up with in Firebaugh is similar in some aspects to Southern/Midwestern culture. It would be disrespectful for a young adult to call someone of their parents generation by their first name. You can call them "Mr So and so" or if they have a position you call the by that position "Coach", but if invited it's OK to call them by a nickname or make them an honorary uncle or aunt. So it's OK to call Coach Daboll "Dabs" or Jim Kelly "JK" but "Brian" or "Jim" would be disrespectful. It both does and doesn't make sense. I was critical of what I thought was the overabundance of time that JK was spending at the facility/with Josh Allen last year. I perceived it as him just trying to hang on to his glory days and the Bills simply "being nice," and letting him hang around. Now I feel like a dick for feeling that way. I'm glad he's mentoring Allen and I think his presence has most definitely helped Josh with on-field performance, as well as handling himself like a pro when the pads are off. Funny McKellar comes up here. The experience Allen talks about with a player for the SF Giants letting him down as a kid, is similar to an experience I had with McKellar and J.D. I also caught hints that there may be some needed perspective/2nd viewpoint there from Kelly to Allen to NOT 100% take his coaches as gospel. By inference, there had been a previous discussion between them where Allen told Kelly that at times, plays were coming in late and Kelly advised him "If the play is coming in late, just call your own play" and Allen was reluctant to take that advice - but now does have more freedom to make his own audibles and is willing at times to just call the play. Albeit, calling a quick play to catch a 12-men penalty is one instance where no one in the organization will criticize him. Other situations, much higher risk so he better be sure of the reward. I personally think that late plays and delays in calling plays is one motivation for McDermott suggesting to Daboll that he move to the box, and either way, get the plays in on time! 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ironically, going by the original premise it would STILL be the K-Gun. It was originally aptly named not for Kelly, but for Keith McKeller.
