Trubisky is just a bad QB.

Both of these teams are just bad. For whatever reason, Miami looked like they could’ve smoked either the Bears or the Rams.

Is it because of Goff and Trubisky or are the two so-called genius coaches not so smart after all?

Some of these NFL rules are just stupid. The uncovered on the end of the line ?‍♂️ What is the point of that rule. Just go with high school rules. Eligibility is based on number, that end would never be an eligible receiver, so no need to have him covered. You can still keep the NFL “reporting eligibility” thing. But none of these ticky-tack calls that are pointless like the uncovered at the end of the line.

Guess this is what happens when two "young brilliant minds with innovative schemes" come into the league and focus more on their schemes and gimmicky plays than on teaching their QBs how to play QB and read defenses.

Goff and Trubisky are terrible...they simply can't read defenses and coverages...once the DCs adjusted and forced them to actually play football by taking away their gimmicks they can't do it...

This should be a cautionary tale for future hires...make sure these coaches teach the QB how to play football first before having them play gimmick football.

And don’t let them trade away multiple first round picks for a defensive player.

Monday morning reflections on SNF this week:

- Remember a year ago when McVay and Nagy were offensive geniuses? Warren Sapp always used to say on NFLN that NFL defences were the fastest changing organisms in the world and while that was crazy hyperbole there is a serious point there. Once there is tape out there on how to slow you down you better bet the rest of the league will copy it quickly and you better make adjustments. For the Rams Matt Patricia was the first to spot that the jet motion was largely window dressing and just ignore it. Then his former boss added to that the 'bear front' on early downs in the Superbowl and between those two ploys the dynamic Rams offense has been disarmed. For the Bears their reliance on gimmick plays has finally caught up with them.

- Give credit to McVay though... he has tried to adjust. I just don't know how sustainable it is long term. Because they are now not running their own scheme. The crazy read option stuff last week with Blake Bortles and then this week the abandoning of zone running and becoming a pure power football team running straight ahead with Gurley behind a big man blocking offensive line. It at least provided some opportunities in the second half on play action which allowed them to make just enough chunk plays to win the game - and Goff is a much better quarterback when the play action is working but it feels like cobbling together just enough plays at the moment rather than a cohesive scheme designed to move the ball.

- On the other side you feel the bell must be close to tolling for Mitch Trubisky. I feel for him a little bit in the sense that I think the Bears sacrificed some of the proper development time for him last year in order to win games - the consequence of a GM on his 2nd Head Coach and a warming seat. I suppose it worked and they made the playoffs but Trubisky who was not a great reader of the field coming out of college and had particular problems identifying things pre-snap is still suffering from those same issues. He just has to play better. It is probably over for him but putting Chase Daniels in is akin to giving up on the season. Messy situation in Chicago.

- Trubisky's struggles aside you have to be able to kick your field goals. Chicago's kicker woes show no sign of abating.

- Shout out for David Edwards out of Wisconsin. He was a player I was high on in the draft (had a 2nd round grade on him but he wasn't picked until the 5th) and interestingly there is a Bills angle to this because similar to Cody Ford I thought he was wither a RT or a guard and the question at tackle was foot speed. We are likely to get an extended look at Ford at RT the rest of this season with Ty's injury but the Rams have started Edwards off inside at guard - one to keep an eye on.
