What Rudolph did was normal after-the whistle 15 yard stuff, not suspension material.  perhaps a fine at the very most.

Everyone should pause and ask: what if Garrett did this to Brady.

Correct.  And let’s not forget that Rudolph already missed several games this year with a head injury/concussion.  And Garrett drills him in the head with his own helmet....I think he’s done for the year.

Actually, no. The play was LONG over before Garrett threw Rudolph to the ground. Like a couple seconds. That was the first act of aggression.

Yup. In football terms, they each deserved offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties - and THEN arrest-worthy assault occurred.

Assault with a deadly weapon on the field

That’s actually the perfect way to put it Guns. Absolutely pathetic.

Am I crazy or was this no worse than the hit Gronk put on Tre White? That was one of the dirtiest hits I've ever seen and no seemed to really care.

I think Garrett will be suspended the rest of the season.

The dude yanked the helmet off the quarterback -- the prima donna of the NFL--and literally beat him with it.

Yes. You're crazy.

My sense was that Rudolph was reacting to Garrett slamming him to the ground. His sack itself was a 'roughing the passer' in any other moment. Watch Mason's head on the sack.

Man the NFL banned hits to the helmet..... don't think they say hits to the head with the helmet lol.

Rest of the season

I’d like to see at least an 8 game suspension so they’re penalized next season as well. This is a situation where the league can and probably will send a message.

He should sit the remainder of the season, and I think that he will. League is going to come down hard with players involved in tonight’s donnybrook.

It’s a minimum.... It’d be the rest of this season and the first two regular season games next year. Some ticky tak 4 game deal is total BS.

He should never play another down ever.

Ever.

Most people will look at this and scoff.

The NFL has invested hundreds of millions to protect players’ heads with new helmets. A targeting foul often gets an election.

In the NFL Is serious about player safety, he should never play again.

I think he'll get 1 game. That's what Gronk got for attacking White.

16 to start/10 after appeal

Whatever the league decrees should be the penalty.  The appeal needs to be denied.

I really like Garrett as a player, and from what I’ve seen he’s a good guy off the field as well. Never hear his name come up like that.

But this?!?!?!?

That has to be a suspension of at least be the rest of this season (playoffs included if they somehow make it), and then however many games next year to make it 16 total. He legitimately could have killed Mason Rudolph. If that was on the street he’d be doing a couple years in prison.

I don’t care if it was a game, that was assault on National TV.  I’m surprised they didn’t take him out in handcuffs and will be suspended for the year.  This is exactly what the NFL owners, Goodall and even NFLPA don’t want to see.  There will always be small skirmishes in just about any sport, but this was over the top.  I would support if one of our players took Brady who we all maybe respect, but can’t stand to have that Bill go out in cuffs.  Make a statement to the league.  Deter this from anyone even considering such an act.

To the person who said he could have killed him, you’re not exaggerating, or at least created serious head trauma.  That was disgusting to watch, and before tonight, I liked Garrett as a rising star and real talent.  You can’t just brush it off as the heat of battle crap, and yes I competed at a high level in multiple contact sports.  There is a line you can’t cross.
