Before the injury, Allen was bailing out of the pocket far too early. In those instances last year, there was still time to operate in the pocket, especially with routes about to come open. It was an area he improved upon, and it hasn’t been a significant problem since. It returned in Cleveland, though, as Allen robbed himself of multiple plays when he still had time to operate in the pocket. Once he bailed out, he usually scrambled to the right and tried a throw on the run — and predictably, the accuracy of those throws dips by quite a bit. Despite not throwing an interception, Allen certainly provided the Browns chances on some of those ghost-seeing plays. Quote Allen must learn to throw the ball with anticipation regularly. Maddeningly enough for fans, he showed he could do it on the final drive. On two consecutive plays, Allen threw the ball with anticipation as wide receivers John Brown and Isaiah McKenzie got into their break. As the players turned around, the ball was right there with perfect placement, allowing them to get out of bounds to stop the clock. It’s in there somewhere with Allen, and it’s his job to trust his eyes, his knowledge of the playbook and his receivers.
