Bengals release Preston Brown

Recommended Posts

Liked him a lot as a person here, but as a player he struggles big time in coverage.  He would be better off fitting into a 3-4 base scheme and not being a 3 down linebacker.

They have a younger option in Germaine Pratt they probably want to see for the rest of the year.   Wouldnt bring him back.

Do it.  Put him at the Mike and move Edmunds to the Elephant role, let him rush the passer where he has a chance to be ELITE.  You want to shake things up and tilt the field a bit?  Time to make a move, McBeane.

Bucs also just released Vernon Hargreaves cb former first rounder.

I would Claim him and Brown actually.  Both are improvements on the Bottom end of the Roster.

Do they both have to go through waivers or are they free to be signed?

Wasn't he the number one ranked tackler in the NFL in 2017?

He must have dropped right off the edge of the cliff this year.

I would say he’s been average against the run this year and flat awful in coverage

He was picked 11 overall and CBs seem to slot into the Bills secondary so well. However I don't think they will get a chance on waivers.

True McD's only willing to improve the roster if the player fits their "Process", "DNA" and "Family man" view of players

Hargreaves has a 9 mill salary in 2020 if claimed on waivers

Yep his 5th year option (not guaranteed) so if he doesnt do anything or fit they can always move on.  If he does you finally found your Solid CB2

Comp pick at the end of season if he doesn't fit though. That alone might be worth it

Poor work ethic at football. What does that have to do with him not being a family man. I’m not talking about him not completing his honey do list.

It's not a long-term solution.  They need to draft or sign a thumper this offseason and move Edmunds outside.  But in the meantime they've run out of sacks and turnovers and the lack of a pass rush is the biggest reason.  And they're getting gashed in the run game, anyway.

Change of Scenery.  Low Risk High Reward claim.

I know they wont do it though and just shows that their claim of always looking for improvement is limited as well

Preston Brown and Zach Brown.  Neither was impressive after they left Buffalo.
